How long does it take for new pokestops to be reviewed and approved?

Hi guys!

I was wondering what’s the criteria like for pokestops submissions to be approved? For example, does it need to be reviewed by X amount of users and get approved by GM/Niantic support groups on top of that?

How long is the turn around time for it to be created in game?

Thank you!

Hello and welcome!

You can show your nomination as presented for better preliminary opinions. Several links are available about the criteria. The three sets of criteria and some guidelines are available in the website, you can also see your contributions and stats there. Also, some common topics found here in the forum Criteria Clarification Collection - Niantic Wayfarer Community

The number of reviewers are better kept unclear as to not take advantage of this. The player community, Niantic, and ML can review your nomination. The turnaround varies per area due to different reviewing activity and nomination queues.

Hello,

First off, we are not creating stops/gyms for PoGo, or portals for Ingress, but Waysots. Approved Wayspots get added to the Lightship map, and each Niantic game uses the map to determine game play locations based on their density rules. PoGo uses S2 cells, while Ingress has a 20 meter rule. More info on the PoGo S2 cells can be found here:

Unfortunately, there is no set timeframe for resolution. The AI system, known as ML, may decide within 24-48 hours. If ML doesn’t resolve within this timeframe, it typically goes to community voting.

Niantic voting, which is when submissions are reviewed by staff, don’t have an exact timeframe. It really depends on their queue size, which we aren’t advised of. I have had some Niantic reviewed submissions take a few days to a couple weeks to be resolved. Staff may send some of these to the community queue, but they also resolved a good deal of these.

As for the community, it can take days, weeks, months, even years at times, depending on the number of reviewers in your area. We also do not know how many reviews it takes, as Niantic doesn’t disclose this info, and it’s listed in the Wayfarer FAQ:

How many reviews does it take to make a final decision on a Wayspot’s eligibility?

This exact number cannot be disclosed at this time, however, we can say that this depends on the performance of each individual Wayfinder.

One think that is recommended is to review yourself! Reviewing helps keep your local queue at a low level, and process others submissions. You can also earn upgrades from agreements with other reviewers, which, when applied to submissions, open them up to a larger review area, and usually faster resolutions.
