I’m surrounded by power spots and no pokestops

Is there any way to request to convert some power spots to pokestops? While I live in an urban neighborhood I have to drive to the nearest pokestop. All the places that are walkable have been converted to dynamax power spots which is frustrating. I can’t do routes or spin unless I drive somewhere. They should at least allow the power spots to be included as route starting/stopping points and add spins to them like with gyms.

Hello and Welcome,

This does not sound normal.

The powerspots where either an initial import or wayspots that where in a cell that already had a stop / gym.

I have not heard of any stops / gyms being removed for powerspots.

If you are willing I would suggest supplying the GPS co-ords of the area (do not use your home) so staff can take a look.

If none of them are Pokestops or gyms, you may be looking at imported Power Spots, which are not eligible to become Pokestops or gyms.

Usually these have a placeholder picture instead of a photo, unless someone has done an edit to add a photo to the Power Spot.

These are coordinates for one that used to be a pokestop but has been removed. Someone told me they saw it as a power spot but can’t 100% verify: 33°52’16.2”N 118°10’07.7”W when I tried to nominate it it said it’s already in the system (not exact words).

33.87115873398844, -118.1688039246092

There is a powerspot (not currently active) close to this “Prince Market & Deli” with no image so looks like one of the imported ones.

If there was a stop here I would suggest it was removed for another reason.

In regards to your “I have to drive to the nearest pokestop” there is 1 less than 100m north of this location and a Gym less than 350m…

The area is quite sparse but that is normal for Residential areas. If you want someone to take a look on the map for possible nominations please ask.

This is still showing as in the pool to be used as a power spot. Pokemon Go seems to have recently cut the number of active Power Spots in half - specifically they seem to have one active one in an L14 S2 cell now, when before they had two.

That would be great! This is in Los Angeles. I do mention it’s an urban neighborhood but trust me when I say they’re not very walkable in the heat haha. It isn’t a far drive but I do need to drive to the nearest one which is the church next to the Prince Market. I just nominated a Free Library which I hope gets accepted and I am open to other spots you can recommend I nominate as well. Thank you so much for your help!

Exactly. It used to be a pokestop with routes attached. So it was converted to a power spot in rotation.

There may have been a Pokestop there, but what I was looking at was a Power Spot import that could not have ever been used as a Pokestop.

So this is not what you were talking about?

Maybe you should post screenshots of the nomination that was rejected as a duplicate.

I never submitted it because before I did it warned me it was a duplicate. I used this location as an example of a spot that used to be a pokestop and isn’t anymore. Whether you see it on your end is another story but I can assure you there used to be a pokestop in that area that was removed. Either way it’s done and I can’t nominate it. Or can I renominate it? I’m just curious if there is a way to add pokestops or if they will continue to be converted to power spots.

Actually scratch that. Maybe I’m misremembering and it was another pokestop removed in the vicinity. I just remember it was a block away from the church that is currently a pokestop there. Sorry for the confusion I moved to this neighborhood a year ago.

You can submit anything that you think will be a good Wayspot. Here is a link to Wayfarer Criteria: Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center

These imported power stops will not be shown to reviewers to mark as duplicate, but the majority of the imported ones will not meet criteria. This specific place does not look like something I would try to submit personally.

Based on that image, i would not vote to approve that. I don’t see how it meets the Wayfarer criteria.

Also, Wayfarer can’t solve the problem of your neighborhood not being “walkable in the heat.” You can’t bypass the eligibility criteria to get a closer wayspot simply because people don’t walk in LA.

I’ve removed my previous comment. Another poster mentioned this as well. May I ask what businesses would be approved? I see different businesses as pokestops so just curious.

I don’t see the comment from @seaprincesshnb as being rude. It may not be what you wanted to hear, but it is a reasonable comment.

My apologies.

Your last comment didn’t need removing, as it was a genuine explanation for your previous comment
