Two pokestops that I had approved were used as powerspots instead of spins. It really killed my desire to play. The wayspots was my favorite thing to work towards and collect. Maybe if they made the power spots spinable, but for now I don’t want to play.
I definitely will not pay for anything in game again. I know four people don’t make a difference in the big money picture of niantic, but not buying tickets for the family will save me a good bit of money over the years I suppose.
I know it is frustrating, but if they are showing up as Powerspots only, then they weren’t eligible to show up as stops or gyms. I have this written up to explain:
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the Lightship database, which can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
If you would like to share the names and locations of these Wayspots, we can check the S2 cells for you.
I have the confirmation emails that they were approved as wayspots. They had just as much space as others I have submitted. It was stated that the powers pots would not take pokestops. If they had been rejected I would understand.
So, yes…Very frustrating for me personally. Not a big deal. Just a big bummer as a daily player. I just won’t submit more wayspots or spend money on the game.
Everyone has said that the power spots would not be placed in approved Wayspots. If that’s expected, the only issue is that I just don’t like it personally. I just won’t take the time to submit them anymore. Thanks everyone for actually discussing this topic with me. I haven’t had much opportunity to discuss it, only to complain to myself.
There is a lot of fan curated information out there that can be extremely helpful, but keep in mind that it might not always be accurate.
Personally, I’d be happy with more Powerspots near me. I have a few submissions that did later become Powerspots that do help me a little, but only one in my immediate area I’ve seen.
i can look on iitc (a map of portals) with the pogotools overlay to show cells. name of wayspot and gps coordinates are easiest, but approximate location will probably work
almost all the powerspots at our main park are ingress portals that don’t also appear in pogo
This can be really confusing since the S2 cells don’t equate to distance. Two can both go live that are right next to each other but on opposite sides of the invisible line, but then only one of two in opposite corners of the L17 cell that are much further apart.
Just wanted to add real quick, this is one of the (or the) most active community forums under Niantic and has frequent Niantic communication, which is something the other platforms do not experience. Some communication we definitely don’t agree with and we won’t always agree with all of the members of this community.
Hopefully we don’t pile up on you, everyone above is genuinely trying to help you understand and set yourself up for a better experience going forward.
The red dot is a gym, and the blue dots are pokestops. You can see how there is a pokestop right next to the gym but on the other side of the cell line. Meanwhile, the portal I highlighted is much further from the gym, but doesn’t appear in Pokemon Go because it is in the same L17 S2 cell as the gym.
Not at all a pile up. I appreciate the info and even volunteers to look things up. No complaints about here for sure. I’m not a fan of the new max particles. I’m just old and set in my ways. I’ll pop in for the occasional new pokemon, but I think Vampireteacup will retire to part time, and do more D&D.
You don’t have to go to part time…or stop submitting wayspots. I think the biggest thing is understanding what you are doing before you do it. Had you have known they would not have shown up in the game you were hoping them to; you made have made a different decision to nomination… or not? I don’t know.
The best thing to do IMHO is to KEEP asking questions of people here and getting the answers. Remembering, we are NOT Niantic and sometimes don’t know how they would answer it. But we get pretty darn close.
I’m in Charlotte, so just a state over from you. I’d be happy anytime to pull up the intel (Ingress map) and check the cells for you before you nominate something.
Not that hard and I actually like to search things out for people.
DON’T QUIT! Just use your resources to get better and lean on those who have already cut their teeth on this stuff!!!
You all need to stop being so helpful and nice, it’s going to get me in my feels!
For real! Thank you, everyone, for looking into this and getting me some factual answers. It’s hard to find communication that’s not bickering and harsh these days.
AND for being encouraging. I’ll get back into it passionately one day i’m sure.
