I thought private property only applies to single family homes?

Please help me understand. I’m constantly getting stuff declined for being on private property when it’s inside the grounds of stuff like a flat block, a college, or even student accommodation. But I thought that those were ok as long as the submission itself was eligible? I was under the impression that private property only applied to single family homes. I often link to the forums post that says stuff inside these places is acceptable. If I appeal this, am I likely to get it accepted?

Hello and welcome to the forum @YelloWool

Your understanding is not wrong. There can be eligible items in common areas of apartment/condo complexs, townhome footprints, gated communities etc.

If you are comfortable you could share the full details of your nomination and get feedback from folks here. We may see something you missed.

Ok that’s good, I genuinely thought I must have been understanding it wrong. If it’s ok, I’ll share 2 that I had issues with.

The first one I only submitted yesterday, so doesn’t that mean it got majorly negative support in voting?

This other one is the same issue, it should be eligible as it’s a communal garden inside an open square of a block of flats, yet it got flagged as being private property.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Those location should be good as they are common social space for flats. So rejecting under PRP is wrong. I suspect that they were actually being rejected as not distinct - so saying they aren’t out of the ordinary.
They are not easy spaces to get approval

For Joppa Station Place I would switch the photos around. The pergola is an interesting feature but the supplementary looks more of a social space than the pergola arch.
Then make sure the description pulls out that it is a community space where those in the flats gather. With features like benches and the pergola it is viewable on satellite view so make sure to say that

For New Park you are facing a similar situation as the one you submitted next to it ( did that get accepted?)
In this case the streetview doesn’t help.

It is 10 years old and doesn’t show it. But the satellite view does.
You might need to play around with different angles to see if you can get a better view of the benches. And then again focus on the social side. That space has less to it so it will be a close call.
In both cases you may need to appeal. But certainly worth another go.
