Is this a viable way spot?

Hello all, I’m very new to nominations and was only recently able to start trying. I read up on the guidelines only after submitting, of course, which has landed me a warning for a fake nomination. I was curious and very cautious of even attempting to submit another nomination at the consequence of a ban of my account. The way spot itself SHOULD be allowed based on other pokestops and similar ones in my area. I live along a very long road littered with neighborhoods, HOWEVER there are pokestops in nearby neighborhoods through a gazebo and a fountain. I wanted to create a way spot by my gate to my community as the sign to the entrance. I understand i was uninformed about the guidelines prior to submitting and I would like to hear others’ opinions on my wayspot. Below are the details of the wayspot and pics. Please provide me with some knowledge lol.

Title : Legends Bay
Desc: Legends Bay is a growing community and includes many amenities to its residents. This community along Sarasota Bay has been around for decades and many locals from neighboring communities visit often.
Reason : This wayspot allows locals for an easy navigational waypoint, as well as a great spot for passing pedestrians or joggers.

Please provide:

  • A screenshot of your nomination, including rejection reasons if it has already been rejected
  • Include the title, description, both photos, and supplemental information
  • Copy and paste the title, description and supplemental so others can translate them
  • If you feel comfortable please share the location, as it is helpful (i.e. hidden duplicates), but you can mask it if you wish.

Hello and welcome,

Neighborhood signs typically are seen as ineligible. They are seen as just ads for the neighborhoods put up by the developer and being indistinct. The signs in certain areas may also be the same, making them more indistinct. It’s also hard to see them as being great places to be social/exercise/explore, which all nominations must meet one of. I would have rejected this as being indistinct, similar to a street sign in a way.

Keep in mind that you cannot base what you may want to nominate off of what’s already in-game, but off of the Wayspot Criteria. Criteria does change from time to time, and what once may have been acceptable may not longer be.

You mention there are other amenities in this community, so you should maybe check those out. Places like clubhouse, swimming pools, parks, playgrounds, picnic areas, etc, may be eligible and would make for better nominations.

Okay thank you. The only thing i don’t understand is that directly across from my neighborhood is another sister neighborhood which has a “gazebo” which is valid as a wayspot and pokestop in game. It’s clearly very old judging by the photos. I’ve personally visited the neighborhood before and was literally kicked out because it was private. Cherry on top, I tried to make a route with the pokestop and it was denied due to “Unsafe area.” Maybe I’m not the most knowledgeable nominator but it doesn’t take much thinking to know that it’s unfair.

Edit: There is a community pool that we have so that could possibly pass?

You have come to the right place, ask questions before you cause yourself any problems.

Being private is not against criteria, as long as some people are allowed in then it is eligible as long as it meets the other criteria.

The community pool is definitely a good shout, go early or late to take images when nobody around, that’s something else that can get you in to trouble

A good mindset to have when submitting is “is this something that would make a good wayspot” (exercise, social, exploration), as opposed to “I want a wayspot here, what looks best”.

Gazebos are intended for socialisation, therefore they meet that by default as it is their primary purpose.

Gazebos are seen as places where one may socialize with others, so they usually are considered eligible. Also, a private neighborhood doesn’t exempt it from having Wayspots as long as there are people there that can access them.

I think the reason this was rejected as unsafe is that someone may have saw this as such, but really, it should have been rejected as being indistinct.

Yes, the pool would be a good nomination. If the pool has a clubhouse, it may also be eligible. I also see some small green spaces at 27.43543088010283, -82.62674811229795 and 27.435242350580115, -82.62595533011108, and this could be eligible as pocket parks.

Keep in mind that Wayfarer simply provides the map for the games, and each game has their own inclusion rules, so there’s no guarantee any approved Wayspot will be added. PoGo uses S2 cells, with 1 Wayspot allowed per L17 S2 cell. You can find more info at the following link: https://pokemongohub.net/post/featured/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

As for routes, they are not a feature of Wayfarer but of PoGo, so there’s not much help that can be provided with those here.

Thank you very much for the advice. My only issue with the gazebo pokestop is that i’ve only been able to visit AT NIGHT. I’ve gone during the day and have been literally kicked out before.

Ah, these are at Aqua, not Legends Bay. Google Maps placed Legends Bay incorrectly, and it’s at 27.431849316534098, -82.6174296970174.

But you don’t live there, so they are able to keep you out. Gated communities and other restricted neighborhoods are not ineligible locations, and this is listed in the tooltip for Appropriate when reviewing:

As stated, just because you are not allowed in doesn’t make it ineligible. As long as the people of that neighbourhood can reach it then it is suitable.

Will they be allowed to your pool?

If they have access through a resident yes or if they happen to wander in through the gate somehow. Anybody can get in.

and that is the same as the gazebo as you prove by sneaking in at night

Not fair but thems the rules…

Just curious of what you mean by “pocket parks” never heard of that before.

I guess so! If those are the rules anyone can break then the same way i do i guess.

All of this has been extremely useful by the way. If i hadn’t posted this I would’ve never thought to use my community pool as a wayspot. Thank yall!!

We are having a discussion about them

It gets easier, I am not a serious nominator just as and when I think of something, i may check the forums then the next time I am at the location I give it a go.

Numbers are rising.

I stated earlier today that you miss locations that you pass all the time as you just don’t think about them.

Good luck for future nominations.

Pocket parks are small green spaces that may have a bench or 2, a walking path, a gazebo/pavilion, even a picnic area. Many new neighborhoods are including them so that there are green spaces for residents to use, places to walk, etc.
