Hey everyone! I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but it has been HOT outside lately! Let’s all post some nominations and waypoints that highlight great ways to stay cool while the world burns!
Abstract ideas welcome. For example, here’s one I made about an “intentional community” where students dedicate their year to living sustainably and creating green engineering solutions.
I can’t take credit for this one myself, as a friend submitted it, but I can vouch that they do some very tasty gelato, and on warm days they tend to have quite a sizeable queue.
I have one! This one I was particularly happy to submit, as it’s in an inner-city recreation complex providing amenities to locals. I was fortunate to arrive when it was still slightly chilly so no troublesome Recognizable Human Faces!
This is the “local” mural in a Trader Joe’s. These water falls are close to a spot that is absolutely bustling with people for summer swimming. I feel like natural “swimming holes” are not very common anymore, especially in city areas. So I’m quite happy that there’s still one to be found in Metro Atlanta.
I dont think you need to know norwegian to understand what koldehole means.
The fridges of the past, cold holes in the ground where cold underground water from the mountains cool holes. These can be sealed to function as a fridge
Or a cairn, submitted in -30C (how the heck did my phone even function??)
This time of the year, I often make posts in my local server about locations shared by the Human Services as dedicated “cooldown centers” - not the bad kind of cooldown! These are places you can visit that don’t require purchases and are set up to facilitate visitors. Splash pads, community centers, aquatic centers, libraries, and most of our local malls are included. I always think it’s important to consider the value indoor locations play that offer 3rd spaces away from home especially for places that experience extreme temperatures in either (or both) spectrum.
Here’s one of my favorite Wayspots, with the photo I submitted of it. There’s often a nice breeze that hits the fountain and sends droplets into the seating area. It’s a great spot to relax and cool off.
I actually saw two teen boys jump in there a couple days ago while I was doing a raid Not pictured in my photo is a footbridge that goes over part of the fountain. The footbridge is made of metal grating and you can feel the cool water below you. It’s really fantastic!
