I have had a couple of nominations approved at a brand new Service Station.
Did my usual process of taking the images then doing the nominations when I return home.
The problem with these is the map in PoGo Nomination screen still shows the area as a building site with no visible clues to where the buildings have now been built.
As recommended I added the nominations using “Best Guess” but on returning they are both innacurate.
They are both within the 10 metre rule but if I was to use the ingame option the reviewers would not be able to see on the map to decide which was the correct location.
Please advise if they can be changed with the following information or how else I could get them changed to the accurate location.
Title: Fountain - Rotherham Services
Current co-ords: 53.397472, -1.350942
Accurate co-ords: 53.397246, -1.351545
Title: Exercise Zone - Rotherham Services
Current co-ords: 53.397150, -1.350473
Accurate co-ords: 53.396968, -1.351216
You may want to try using the location edit option in help chat and give additional info, such as a geotagged photo or a Scaniverse splat. Yes, it is usually used for edits that are over 10 m, but it can be used for ones that are less than 10 m when additional evidence needs to be provided.
This forums is not for location edit appeals, just for rejected removal appeals that are valid, or for asking for a removed Wayspot to be restored. Don’t be surprised if a mod moves this to another topic.
You can also take photos at different angles and try to match features that are present on satellite to what you’re trying to show. Or you can jsut leave as is until satellite updates which I do understand might be years
I don’t think anyone questioned why you are wanting to move these, or the reasons for the moves. As long as the location edit requests are accurate to where the Wayspot is, that is a valid reason to request a move.
Please don’t take it that I am having a go at anybody giving advice.
Was just making a point that I placed the points originally and people decided to accept my data was correct even with the lack of evidence due to out of date mapping.
If I wanted to incorrectly place them for my benefit then I would have done it when nominating…
Reviewers looked at your nominations, and from all the info you provided, made the decision that they do exist where they were placed, that they are real-world POIs.
Yes, it can be hard to properly place a Wayspot that’s not on Google Maps yet, or even indoors, but we have to make the best judgment of where they should be on the map. This is even noted in the Reviewing a Wayspot Nomination guidelines:
Note : At times, you may not be able to view the Wayspot nomination in maps or street views if the real-world location of the nomination is inside a park or under a tree. For these cases, use your best judgment to decide whether the nomination could exist at the real-world location. You can use the submission photo and look for clues in the background to help you decide.
Don’t assume that this might cause an issue with your account, as these aren’t on the map yet, so you have to do your best to place them. Now, you found that they are off a bit after they were approved and want to move them to the more accurate location, and yes, this can happen, even with places not on the map or indoors.
Hi
I have been had this issue of trying to get things correct on an out of date satellite view, it’s easy to get things wrong.
You can look a bit daft doing a scaniverse splat, but they are quite effective.
The app is free to download. And currently CameraGPS is also free.
Both are good and using helpchat allows for a proper dialogue to take place.
Someone else may visit sooner and submit corrections, in meantime I wouldn’t be concerned about it. Just wait until next visit.
I messaged Niantics Help and as suggested here they have replied stating …
I need to update within 5 days, I am unlikely to re-visit during that timescale.
I am to install additional software (scaniverse or GPS Camera).
It got me thinking, would it be a good option allowing the positioning of nominations using Long / Lat instead of just the map drop that can be innacurate with out of date mapping?
