Okay…as you know I pop these Yes/No Things up from time to time…to break up the daily grind that us dedicated wayfarers give our time for however…this one is a bit different to the fact in my eyes it’s a Yes/No Post but also I would like to know from anyone viewing the post if your wayfarer criteria checks are up to date.
So here goes…I’ve come up against a Memorial Tree with a Plaque on it as a submission from the looks of it in the middle of a housing estate, while I look around the streetview footage for confirmation this is not my only form of validation though.
However…the plaque is dedicated to a person who is/was a Pokémon Go player and a young one at that…as the clue was “Galarian” before I even got to the supporting information…this however confirmed the suspicion I had but it jumped out at me that they wanted this as a Pokestop/Gym to Honour his memory…while this felt a little like Abuse of the System the supporting information felt like “influencing” so I was curious if multiple people were planning to nominate it.
Read the submission images before replying…while I can be sympathetic towards things like this I didn’t feel like it added value to being a Wayspot.
I agree with your assessment that this is not something that should be accepted under this clarification
I would not mark this as “influencing reviewers” myself. It seems to me that they are just following the prompts in the nomination screen and explaining why they think this Pokestop is important.
I don’t know who the person is. I think “important to the local community” can have a lot of different roles but unfortunately they have not attempted to explain this beyond having been a friend.
Additionally, as tragic as the passing of a friend is, it almost feels like somebody seeking an opportunistic Wayspot rather than commemorate. Lack of detail in the actual nomination furthers this opinion.
If the person or the community sees this, I would encourage them to create something that can meaningfully honor their friend and give back to the local community at large. A Little Free Library, a mural, play structure, etc would give back to everyone and be something the group can be proud of.
I reviewed nomination the other day that was really I would say was trying to influence reviewers. I have to paraphrase, but it was something like “this is the third time I’ve submitted this. Quit giving me your bull sh** rejections and accept it already.”
I had to laugh, but it was definitely rejected on its (lack of) merit with regard to the eligibility criteria.
Yeah I’ve had a few of those, some make me laugh but I mostly skim over there comments and try to see if the object they are submitting a) meets criteria with a little leeway b) has a good description c) not influencing my thoughts process
While we have limited functions to send correct feedback to humans we have to make use of what ever options we can.
But back chatting the wayfarer system of reviewers isn’t going to get your submission accepted and sometimes I wish we could see the player name/username who submitted the wayspot for creativity reasons just like when the featured wayspot shows up
I’ve always thought the idea of “influencing reviewers” to be suspect and should only be flagged “Abuse” in the most obvious of cases.
The whole point of “Supporting” is to influence reviewers. Like literally every single thing you review that says why something should be a POI is attempting to influence reviewers.
I save that criticism only for those cases where they are outright trying to say something like this will spawn a new gym in this cell.
I wouldn’t say this person is deliberately influencing reviewers (that would be more plausible if the nominee outright said something like “Please vote for this to respect the memory of this person”). Like others have said, this is moreso an attempt by them to explain why they believe this would be a significant wayspot as opposed to directly telling the voters how they should vote.
They could probably go with a better description/supporting info that elaborates more on how the person impacted them all, but it’s far from abuse as far as I can tell.
