Wayspot appeal

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: John and Del Mcpeak Memorial Bench

  • Location (lat/lon):

  • City: Kerrville

  • Country: USA

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): I don’t know where to find the latitude, this memorial bench was turned down because it’s seasonal or temporary? Every other bench in this park is accepted. I don’t understand.

This (originally this was posted in Wayspot Appeals) is where you appeal rejected reports not nominations. You appeal rejected nominations from your contributions page Niantic Wayfarer

If you are not seeing that button to appeal, you may not currently have one. You get 2 appeals each on a 20 day counter before you can use it again.

I suggest you check out this clarification on benches.

The person should be significant to the commmunity and you should prove that in your nomination. These cause a lot of confusion.

fyi, if you still have the email from submitting this nomination, the coordinates you submitted at are shown below the second photo.

Hey there, I have moved your post to the Nomination support tag.

Wayspot Appeals are not sent via the forum. The Wayspot Appeal category here is only for rejected contributions like Wayspot Reports, as they are not handled over the Wayfarer Websites contributions section.

If you want to appeal your rejected Wayspot nomination, you would need to go to the Wayfarer Website, under Contributions, and hit the appeal button there. But before you do that, I would recommend to take feedback from the community here, because there are a lot of easy things that you can do to improve your nomination already.

The rest of this rejection reason is “or Not Distinct.” Reviewers were trying to tell you that they did not see anything significant about this bench.

So why would any memorial bench or
Memorial tree or any memorial be accepted. The majority of memorial Poke spots are people who are Not notable.

Now that I have the understanding that a memorial has to be a notable person, it makes reviewing memorial poke spots much easier. Since they have to be someone notable, got it

Because a bunch of them have been incorrectly accepted or are old enough that certain clarifications or rules have not existed back then

Notable doesn’t have to be someone world famous, they can be a locally important person. But you would have to make the case for that in the description and supporting info.

For example, local to me, Clifford Poe was crucial in setting up the local water supply among other things and served the community for years. Nobody outside of the community would know how important he is. If I wanted to nominate a memorial to him (I actually have one I’d like to but it would impede emergency services :man_shrugging:t2:) then I need to provide enough info to convince reviewers.

I understand that, but there in lies the problem. Who decides when a persons life was noteable enough. If they went out of their way to get a memorial obviously they were noteable. I have taken the noteable criteria into account today

The community does. Here is one that I submitted. He isn’t a household name, but he is important here:

And here is one that should not have been accepted:

Just a purchased memorial from the town for a loved one.

Needless to say, I rejected this when I saw it in voting:

But George McDowell isn’t noteable to the person reviewing his bench. So to that person he is not noteable

As the submitter you get the first chance to decide whether the person is definitely notable or definitely not notable or somewhere in between and then decide to make a nomination.

If the person is well known just to a small community vs the world/country then you will likely need to convince the reviewers with evidence of what makes them notable. You should still do this for more well known people, they may just be easier.

After that, it’s like cyndiepooh said, the community gets to decide if they agree with your assessment.

To paraphrase NianticKrug, billions of people lived, had a family, did a job, and died. A database full of all of them would be very boring.

Parks and other places have fundraisers where you can buy a plaque on a bench, pavilion, or even trash can. Another common fundraiser is engraved bricks on a sidewalk.
Just because someone can afford one (or has family that afford one after their death) - does not make them noteable.

Here’s one way they’re done https://parkbenchfundraising.com/

The person viewing the bench would be standing IN the Cary Tree Archive, so he would be notable to them. And I think that I put enough information in my submission to convince good reviewers of this. That is why I shared the supporting information as well.

The one that should not have been accepted imo just said “Nice bench along the greenway in Bond park.” Completely generic.

I don’t think I’ve shared the single memorial bench I’ve submitted before so I’ll add it here as I think it’s a good way of showing how/why a person is notable to the community, but including links for a reviewer who may not know (maybe they set their bonus location there or are visiting the area and reviewing. I always try to be conscious that a reviewer may have no local knowledge so I, as the submitter, need to make it as easy as possible to accept).

Let me know if you’d accept it, or if you think it could have been improved.

If as the submitter you can’t find a good internet source that will confirm to you that this is a notable person, you should stop at that point and not submit.
Finding that information is what the reviewer will want to see. This needs to be in the supplementary information so that the reviewer can assess.
@cyndiepooh example she posted this is the critical part.

Likewise @PkmnTrainerJ example also provided links.

As submitters they have been convinced and given the evidence to the reviewer so they can now decide whether to :+1::-1: or if unsure choose I don’t know.

I have taken the noteable into account when reviewing memorials. That’s all we need to say on the matter.
