Moved to a very remote town

Hi there, me and the kids have moved to a remote town and there are zero stops or gyms here! We travelled about 20 km out and still nothing. This means we will not have any stops to spin or do any raids in person or enter pokemon in gyms! What are the chances any stops will ever be accepted or any gyms appearing. We do get spawns, however kids are disappointed at level 45 and now cant play😐

Welcome to the forum!

Do you need help looking for things to submit? Some members of this forum are really good at locating potential Wayspots to suggest if you would like to leave your location. But do remember this is a public forum if you decide to share.

You can share rough area of ur town and some people might be able recommend something. If you are planning to stay for long period of time, i recommend walk around neighbourhood. Sometime u might stumble upon gem waiting to be submitted. For faster approval, u can do some review to get upgrade

To start building an “eye” for what might be a good wayspot in your area I recommend reading through the Criteria Clarification Collection and I always love recommending this topic: Top Mistakes When Nominating and How to Avoid Them as it has a LOT of good information for anyone who is just getting into making wayspots. Both of these really helped me get an understanding and have allowed me to be really successful with my nominations. So worth a read if you decide you want to start trying to create some wayspots in your area!

This may sound a little harsh but whatever lead you to the decision, you decided to move to a remote town, as opposed to a large city.

There will naturally be less points of interest in this location compared to a large city.

It would be worth keeping an eye out for straightforward things that may not have been submitted though such as the local church or post office.

If they’re further out, then you have to embrace the Exploration aspect of Niantic’s games and get out there and play!

Welcome!!

Read through this topic where the person lives in a small village. Pokestops in small towns

They were pretty frustrated with their lack of wayspots and then they had a lot of things rejected. We scoured the map to find places they hadn’t considered submitting. We also helped them improve their photos and text so their submissions would be accepted.

We love helping remote areas find places to add to the map! But we need to know where the remote area is.

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with you.

Rural Areas can have lots of Wayspots. Surely, you will not reach the density of wayspots you have in a major city, but still you can easily get enough wayspots to enjoy Niantic Games.

I feel this comment is very discouraging, especially coming from an Ambassador, and very discouraging for rural player.

I myself found myself in a small village in germany with just one wayspot at the time. It had 250 people inhabitants, so a very small village. Still, i could easily manage to find playgrounds, hike trails, interesting architecture, interesting local businesses, picknick Areas and even a small museum. After just a few Month, I created over 50 POI in that village including and 8 Gyms. It was a great place to play outside, much more enjoyable than a major city if you ask me personally.

I feel it would be better to encourage people to submit wayspots and give them tips how to do it. Not every “rural” or “remote” place is a single house in vast acres of farmland like it is in the US oftentimes, and to be honest I don’t like the sentiment of Big City players smugly looking down to rural players. I had my share of this, and its not good for the wayfarer community and it also leads to wrong community decisions to bring Major City Standards to rural nominations, and Niantic has stated multiple times that different standards apply to major cities and rural villages. It leads to discouraging rural players to build up their home village with wayspots and in the end people leaving our community. that can not be the goal.

If I’d come across to an Amabassador discouraging me like that when I began submitting wayspots, i might not have done what i have done, not sparked a small rural community and maybe not even playing Niantic Games anymore.

Rural Areas are good places to play Niantic Games. And there is plenty of possible wayspots even in small villages. What could better fulfill then Wayfarer goal to bring people out to play than beeing in nature and explore all the interesting things in a rural place?

This was my point overall, so thank you for highlighting it.

I don’t live in a big city, but wanted to be clear that you’re not necessarily going to have the same experience in a more remote location.

Since u mention that there is nothing with 20km drive. Be reminded that 2 wayspot within level14 cells , means 1 one of it will turn into gym. So you can use this to advantage and try to submit your 1st gym. Personally i submit a lot and i find exploring to find this wayspot even more interesting than the actual game. If you want faster approval , you can do some review and get upgrade. But its better if u ask opinion before applying upgrade for the 1st time so it wont get wasted.

What do you recommend people in rural places do? Just not play? Nothihg qualifies its like people have personal jealousy against someone having a pokestop in their town

I see that you have made a separate post, which is great, and want to direct people there to respond:

Just because its rural place, doesnt means there is nothing to be submitted. Surely it wont feel like big city where u can get many gym/pokestop in range. But there are things like religious place, boundry mark, park, signage, local gathering cafe/restaurant, etc. Its up to you as local player to explore and submit. The best community here can do is giving suggestion and advice.

Hello @Asiafarooq
I have merged your posts together and moved the topic to nomination support.

Experienced wayfinders here will be very happy to help.
It would be great to see examples of anything you have submitted and the town where you live and want to nominate. We can then start to support you.

We have recommended multiple times that people give us coordinates and we will help them find things to submit. So far we have not been given the chance to help in this situation.

What kind of facilities does the new town have? Since its a town, not a village or even a hamlet, I would hope there would be some options for you!

Some things to consider:

  • Religious buildings ie church/mosque/synagogue/temple are great options
  • community buildings ie town/village hall, community centre
  • post office
  • community run shops or farm shops ie run by volunteers, doing good for the community, promoting local produce, place where people would meet and socialise
  • cafes and restaurants, pubs etc where people socialise
  • transport hub ie train station or bus station
  • playgrounds or outdoor gym equipment
  • sports facilities, swimming pool, basketball court etc
  • walking or cycling trails with signs or maps
  • artwork publically available

Hope that list gives you some ideas!
One thing that would be very useful is to learn about the cells that Pokemon Go uses to decide what to display as stops and gyms. It is common in smaller places that maybe 3 or 4 things could end up in 1 cell, but with planning with tje cells, you may choose to select a different combination or at least know what will appear vs wont which helps with disappointment
