New Pokéstop Upload

I’ve created a unique warning sign for the kids playing in the streets. It’s a carved out and painted Captain Pikachu and it took me days to finish it. I’ve wanted to add it as a pokéstop, since there aren’t many pokéstops in the area, but I keep get rejected. First I was told it was a mass produced sign and the second time i got told it was a fake submession and i received a warning. How can I add this pokéstop. To me it fits all criterias and brings Pokémon beautifully into the real world. Can someone help me out?

This is cute! But it looks like it is attached to SFPRP (single family private residential property) which would make it ineligible, and sticks out into a roadway where it would not have safe pedestrian access and would be ineligible.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on doing something nice for your community like that!

Hello and welcome,

Yes, I have to agree that this may be at an ineligible location, either at a K-12 school (that was my first thought), or PRP. It’s a great safety sign, but many of these that I see tend to be around schools, daycares, and other childcare centers. Here’s more info on PRP and K-12 schools:

More info on all Wayfarer criteria can be found here:

Hello. To be honest, that does look kinda like an image dropped into another image, so that’s why someone reported it as fake. If that is something you make by hand, it’s really lovely. You have great skills.

However, as others have mentioned, there are issues with this that make it ineligible, so it was correctly rejected.

Before we go too much further, can I ask you what you think are the criteria since you said

If this is your first endeavor into the world of Wayfarer, your concept of the criteria is probably very different from the real criteria for Wayfarer. We would love to help you figure it out, but we need to know what your expectations are so we can provide the right education.

Yes it was done by hand and took me quite a while.
I know that there is a big list for criterias to fit, but I also know that there are gray areas since there is always a discussion to wether the Pokéstop fits the criterias. I have a problem on the reason it got rejected. I was told it was a mass proced sign first so on my second submission i posted a foto of the making process of the sign. Then it go rejected to be called out fake. The sign is clearly visible from far away. Is not near any school or day care. It’s aside a road that is popular for walks and strolls so it is has great accessability. I’ve seen Pokéstops with warning sign of other cartoon character. So why can’t a sign that is made with love and bringing Pokémon to the real world, attracting kids to indulge in the world of Pokémon not suitable to become a Pokéstop? Or other question, what would I have to change to make it fit the criterias?

Please don’t take this the wrong way. Your answer tells me that you don’t know the criteria for what makes a good wayspot.

The thing being nominated has to be a great place to:

  • explore
  • exercise
  • be social

How does a warning sign do any of those 3 things?

You are concerned about the rejection reasons. But let’s ignore those for this discussion. This sign is literally meant to warn kids not to play in the street. It does not do any of the things listed above.

This is a sign meant to warn about kids in the street.

The OP created a work of art/landmark that also fulfills the function of reminding us that children may be at play. Its artistic quality may make it worthy of exploring, and it is most certainly not solely a traffic sign.

Thanks for your response. It is a “kids are playing” warning sign, meaning it warns the cars that there a children playing in the streets so they should watch out. So in that way it is a place to explore and exercise. The kids around here meet at Pikachu to play outside. It that way it is a place to meet, be social and exercise. I see so many pokestop that are signs or simple artwork. How are they more a place to exercise, explore or being social?

it’s in the road therefor it doesn’t have safe access on foot.

Hello @Befehli

That is a lovely sign. You did a great job.

Similar to other commenters, I have concerns about where this is located. Is this on your private property where you live? It looks like it’s on a fence by a garage.

Also if that is an alleyway or street there is not safe pedestrian access as I see no sidewalk. I understand that many places except folks to walk on the same surface as cars drive, but Niantic is very cautious about safety. Unfortunately it also appears that the fence is at the very edge of this area and no grass is there for pedestrians.

So please help us understand what this property is and more about the roadway. That way we can give you better advice.

And my last note is that unfortunately you can’t always depend on what is already in the Niantic games to be a good example of hitting current criteria The criteria has changed over time. And sometimes things get in that shouldn’t.

Thanks for all the responses. The sign is attached at a Hut on our property. I mounted it so it’s outside our propery towards the road. The road is a private street, so only access for the 10 residents living there. Therefore there’s no sidewalk and very popular for walkers, joggers, strollers etc.

Hi Eneeoh. So you think it’s better to register as an artistic work rather then warning sign?

Unfortunately this is still not an eligible location, even if it is attached to the outside of your property.

Please read the link that @DTrain2002 shared earlier.
