New waypoints being used for max raids

Has there been any official word on this kerfuffle? People are running awol and report the new Power Spots. Niantic sits at the receiving end and will surely know what they have done? They will see all the reported Power Spots and have to act here.

If there is to be a comment I would expect it to be from the PokƩmon Go team as it about in game features.
Some of the data has been taken from wayfarer but wayfarer is only about the elements in the submission, assessment and the curation of them on the database.

Do you really expect any action given that they havenā€™t taken any from the imports to India, Brazil, TĆ¼rkiye and others?

Niantic could just leave this here like that so that everyone can see what happened.

I guess someone up at Niantic HQ thinks that any given random Pokemon Go Player that submits things will read this here - truth is that people will now see the new Power Spots and say ā€œlets give it a try and submit all our local small businesses, nail salons and small officesā€. In the end the database will be like all other databases, so this means ā€œgoodbye to the HQ POI Databaseā€ that some people seem to have in their mind.

I had to share this Power Spot after a Twitter mutual from New Zealand posted it.

I have no idea what Iā€™m looking at, but the length of that title is something that even @PkmnTrainerJ aspires to :joy:

Just got home, and I believe that Iā€™ve reported more than half of the power spots that Iā€™ve looked at in the area where I live.

Most common issues: no pedestrian access (power spot located in the middle of the street rather than on whatever building itā€™s supposed to be connected to), permanently removed (business shut down)

 this one was probably supposed to be on one of the houses, so either way, bad :wastebasket:

Most of the ones Iā€™ve seen are fake/closed businesses at houses.

Spotted a Costcutter that hasnā€™t been a Costcutter since at least 2017.

Itā€™s tagged as that on Overture so Iā€™m not sure where their data comes from?

Iā€™m guessing the back of a filing cabinet somewhere

Iā€™ve seen a few power spots that seem to correspond with lightship / ingress POIā€™s, but most are comparable with foursquare imports.

Usually Iā€™m pretty generous on what Iā€™d consider good enough for a waypoint, but a lot of these are really low quality. Definitely gonna need some adjustments to these.

Iā€™m reporting everything that is on PRP etc, knowing Niantic they will probably just ban me for reporting too much

Itā€™s sad how low quality this data is, most of the businesses have either moved or shut down, the ones that do exist the pin is placed way off. So much on private property. Right now thereā€™s one dab inside the local fire station so you have no choice but to be in their way if you wanna do a max raid there.

Itā€™s just bad.

Iā€™ve noticed that in areas with no businesses or other imported POI it will use wayspots every single time. I feel like their weights are wrong and that they should prioritze them over the other low quality data when possible.

You guys at Niantic wanted scan data, right? Why not add the option to scan those power spots (and maybe with additional max particles reward).

They are not just bad they are out of date, some donā€™t exist since at least 2015, misplaced and on private property.

More importantly many of then are unsafe.

One near me shifted from a private residence to here

If the mist clears Iā€™ll get a better picture but the Powerspot is at the top of a cliff 50m high.

At the back thereā€™s a street leading up to the top but you still have to go through a gated area onto the private land of a company with danger electrocution signs etc to be in range of it or climb up the cliffā€¦

Even a Wayfarer purist who is only concerned with the map should be able to see why this feature shouldnā€™t be contained to discussions on Go sites.

Seems like one found in Brazil. I wonder if itā€™s the same or itā€™s spreading around. Funny thing is twitter was blocked here a few days ago.

Just a lack of quality control all around I think.

Yup

The power spot closest to where I live is called ā€œCHINA TOUR TRAVEL GUIDEā€ but itā€™s on an apartment building and doesnā€™t seem to be on either Maps of Foursquare. Iā€™ve seen three seem to be from the wayspot database, and two that are business on Google Maps. The rest are random businesses that may or may not still exist at those locations.

Not sure why they didnā€™t just prioritise unused wayspots since Iā€™m pretty sure thereā€™s a decent amount of stuff around my area thatā€™s not in Pogo.

Rather than reporting them, shouldnt we ask Niantic how they want the change? Maybe we should make a correction at the source (aka ā€œThe Database that Niantic brought inā€)

Wouldnt Niantic rather talk to us about their Ideas, changes and new features? Isnt this the time?
