Niantic review rejection - amusement

This is not a review support. It is a casual observation.

Had a good laugh. I had a nomination that went into Niantic Review. And was rejected for not being of historical, cultural importance or lacking uniqueness.

Sure it is a bridge. But it is a Grade II listed bridge of historical and architectual importance (it is what the heritage listing says). Culturally I would argue it was important as it was how the people of one side of the river got to the other. But that is just me

So I am having a giggle at being told what it is not but it is heritage listed for being exactly that.

Interestingly it was one of the few listings to have had a double entry for exactly the same thing. So it actually has a rescinded listing and valid listing at the same time…

I will be appealing. But that will be a month as I just used two successfully

Hope you all had a good challange. Lates

I’ve not done many nominations but I have put in links to a website on some of them… Doesn’t always mean acceptance. For instance, I had one rejection with one of the reasons listed as SFPR, when I linked to a website listing the property for sale showing it as a four-unit apartment building. So perhaps the link annoyed reviewers who don’t want to take the time… I would definitely approve a bridge that had a historic and architectural importance listing on some web site, all other things being equal, seems like a definite “explore” criterion winner. I don’t understand why Niantic would reject on that basis either, perhaps we will learn.

Niantic Review recently reviewed a text edit I made during the edit challenge on a wayspot in my area that didnt have a description. I did research on it and wrote the details in my own words for it (its a historic train depot in my area thats now an event venue) And guess what? They declined my edit to ADD a description with detail regarding the historical importance of the wayspot. Not saying any description is better than no description but mine certainly was better than no description and for whatever reason they just decided to not look into it and keep the wayspot without a description. Didnt even bother with an appeal. Just went back to the wayspot, slightly changed my description, and submitted again. It got auto approved by Emily too which was the 1 nice thing in the end.

Good point @Andy502 If I state heritiage/historical it will have back up . In this a case - I linked direct to the actual heritage listing website - in supporting information.

As a reviewer - I would rather be bombarded with facts to lessen my work reviewing. As a nominator I don’t want the reviewer to do the hard work.

The rejection is now accepted. I know not how or why but will not question

I note this though - there are a lot of items registered of heritage importance. Many are private residences or are in a dangerous position or inaccessible. And some will may not make it just because well they just don’t cut the mustard. So just because it is listed - with the link - rightly it still needs checking…
