Niantic wants you to get shot in the face with an arrow?

I submitted location edit for an archery range wayspot. The current wayspot location 40.586542, -73.879885 is literally in the middle of the archery range where the targets are and arrows fly. I edited it to move it from that location to the roofed station where archers and observers can safely stand and sit at 40.586336, -73.879974

This edit was rejected and then appeal was rejected by Niantic with

The location you have submitted is not the correct location for the object. Please note that trying to move a Wayspot away from its correct location is considered abuse and may lead to sanctions on your accounts.

What does Niantic really want people to get hurt trying to interact with that wayspot? Why would they not move it to a safe location, and why would they threaten me with abuse?!

Considering the photo looks like a target in the field I can understand the edit being denied, especially if the Niantic reviewer was unaware of the context.

I think it would be better to request removal of it and re-submit the clubhouse or signage if you think it meets criteria. I think I’d generally have considered adding the clubhouse/signage photo to the existing Wayspot but Niantic might consider that “repurposing” which they consider similar “abuse” as moving something away from its exact location.

It should NOT be removed since it’s a valid wayspot that meets relevant criteria. But its location should be adjusted…

Their official website is at Archery - Gateway National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service) and you can actually see the hero photo of the roofed structure where I tried to move the wayspot to.

I personally don’t think archery ranges are ineligible (although there can be an argument against them as shooting ranges are ineligible) and I agree the location is unsafe.

I’m just not sure the best way to handle adjusting the location and think you may need to do something other than just requesting the location edit by itself.

Hello,

Where the Wayspot is now compared to the range building is over 25 meters away, so moving it in-game and getting it approved is going to be hard. I don’t quite agree with removing it and then resubmitting, as how would one request a removal request if arrows are flying in the air?

I would recommend doing a location edit via help chat on the Wayfarer website. This will allow you to give more info as to why it needs to be moved, including noting it’s in the middle of the shooting range, which isn’t a safe location. You can even provide the website, maybe even note that there are many photos on Google Maps for The Floyd Bennett Field Archery Range if they need more evidence.

Seems to me to be similar to editing a football field to move the pin out of players way to the sideline

Just with bonus danger

Agree that Help Chat will be better as you can explain everything and send as many pictures, links etc as you like to give evidence for the move

The move via help chat worked for me. The correct location was over 100 meters from the actual. First i had to take videos of both locations. Then I had to take geotagged pictures of the two locations. So, make sure grotagging is turned on in your phone. I had to look up how to do this for my phone.

I didnt even use geotagged images - but I did supply images that showed landmarks and other waypoints for reference

Same. I just take photos that show the correct location, and may even take screenshots from Street View if it’s on it to better show the area. No videos or geotagged photos have ever been needed.

In this case, I think satellite view shows the building, and the website does, too, so that may be enough for the location edit to be done. I’ve also don’t some location edits with only a location’s website, as it lists the correct location, and nothing more.

Yes - they seem good at looking at whatever evidence we can provide in a range of forms
