Nomination to review has same photo as existing wayspot

I would rather report it to help chat if see a trend.

So mark as duplicate, then go to help chat and report the possible abuse?

If you see a trend. You could report it in the nomination flow as well. It’s preferable to report it to help chat in case there are multiple accounts involved.

Here, I think it would be preferable to prevent the photo from ever being added.

okay. i do not have the memory to be able to exactly remember which nominations i have seen duplicate photos submitted for, and i have reported here that i have seen a trend in this happening. so i will just skip these from now on, since i don’t feel good about helping to add a duplicate photo to a wayspot.

again, thank you for engaging.

I did get this one, and it did appear to be the case of someone not checking Contribution Management to see the progress of a nomination, and resubmitting. The title was almost the same, except for Apartment instead of Apartments.

I think we do have a good deal of submitters right now that were used to ML accepting their nominations, so they don’t check Contribution Management often. They may also review, but have auto-upgrade on, so they don’t worry about having to choose what to upgrade.

i think we just have some impatient Wayfarers, some that need a little reminders about checking Contribution Management, etc. I don’t think there’s anything nefarious going on, so I can see why Aaron is saying to mark them as dupes instead of rejecting for another reason.

You also seem to be missing the point that this adds a duplicate copy of the photo to the Wayspot. Aaron said to mark it duplicate, so go ahead and do that if you feel good about it.

The reason why is besodes the point. What everyone is concerned about is the extra unnecessary work flow needed to correct the database.

this is still spamming, whether intentional abuse or not

I’m not worried about the extra work because I won’t be going through that effort.

I will follow what is published and not somebody else’s interpretation and rejecting them as explained in my posts.

Exactly, it’s up to us to do the work, and if we don’t want to, we don’t have to. It’s like how some Wayfarers only submit and not review, and vise versa.

Aaron says to mark as dupes, and if you want the extra photo removed, you have that option via help chat. You don’t have to request photo removal, but the option is open to us.

And I don’t see these are intentional spamming, which is what Niantic is concerned with. I don’t think these were submitted around the same times, most likely a few days or weeks apart. It’s more that the submitters need some re-education, especially with ML auto-accept being down still. Spamming would more be is there were 2 or more submissions within minutes of each other, not days or weeks.

I’d rather not get into speculation on why somebody is adding them. We’ve all had confirmation bias to support any narrative and dismiss any logic shared by another and this has taken place since even before Wayfarer was a thing.

I would also rather not speculate their definitions, whether they care share them or not.

There are other concerns to address than this.

Where on earth did you come up with this definition for spamming?

Nvm, we are gettting away from the point of this topic.

I think if you go back and look at what spanning is defined as for edits, it could be applied to nominations as well. It’s not for sure the definition, but it’s possible.

But yes, all we really needed was to know how to reject these, and I think when those disagreed with me on marking them as dupes is where it got off course a bit.

How is that going of course when it contributed to the discussion and brought forward valid points… that are still valid despite Aarons responses.

I didn’t bring it up as going off topic…

me asking you where you got that definition was what i was calling off topic. you have answered.

Can we just move on? Aaron clarified what we should be doing, and staff will note what has been discussed here. If they feel changes need to be made, they will make it.

End of discussion for me, really.

That’s a fine solution. We all have things we skip that others may not. Wayfaring would be less fun without that option.

For duplicate nomination photos, I see that as Niantic’s choice.

  • They let the nominator create a new nomination with a photo they already used.
  • Their process adds the duplicate photo to the Wayspot.
  • They don’t run a cleanup to remove duplicate photos.
  • AND they just stated that it’s a duplicate nomination, even tho it adds a duplicate photo to the existing.
  • It’s their database.
