Nomination to review has same photo as existing wayspot

and here are two identical photos for different accepted wayspots back in california. (this current review seems okay)

Bayshore Community Park

Newell Community Park

(i am reporting these duplicates and niantic can figure out what to do with them)

Ugh, just got another, and there’s a big issue with it, as it’s a possibly temporary hammock that can be removed easily. Waiting on another help chat request right now, but marked as dupe and took a screenshot. In CA, for those wondering, and did have different title/description (tried to play it off as a sculpture on campus).

I saw this exact nomination in review months ago, and if I remember correctly it was already a duplicate at that time.

I have to conclude that these are a kind of honeypot. The basis is a superficially plausible nomination with one or more glaring flaws. For dupe-checking, if it isn’t a total duplicate it at least shares the same photo as something in nearby.

Other types of honeypot fail K-12, SFPRP, watermark, etc.

I reported these duplicates

But Niantic rejected the report

@NianticAaron What are we to make of this? Does staff know how to identify duplicates? Are there some cases where the same photo can keep coming through but not be considered to be a dupe? How do you want to play these?

This is what help chat said to me for this one:

I do think that staff sometimes isn’t always on the same page, as I submitted a bar for removal via hep chat, and at first it wasn’t removed. I resubmitted, referenced the previous ticket, and it has now been removed.

Aaron already replied to us to mark them as duplicates in review, and report them afterwards, especially if the dupe has the same main photo. I’m making sure to take screenshots before submitting the dupe while reviewing, and looking up the current Wayspot.

Our theory, and this hasn’t been confirmed, is that these are “honeypots,” staged nominations put into queue by Niantic, most likely for testing and quality control reasons. Again, nothing has been confirmed, but it makes sense, as most of the dupes have something a little different than the existing Wayspot.

Those are not duplicates. There are two separate archways connected to these Wayspots.

When I sent the report, the photos showing were the same. They aren’t now.

And now both are portals?

Avenue One Community: Clubhouse Archway

Avenue One Community: Charlotte Drive Archway with Benches

I give up. I am too confused.

There’s more than one arch in this neighborhood. I did get both as duplicates for review, but for the 2nd one, they had switched the main and supporting photos around; I saw the main photo that’s for the Wayspot as the supporting photo. The main photo they used in the dupe I got had the white truck in the background.

The other arch is located in a different part of the neighborhood, but I got the duplicate nomination with the same main photo, with that white van in the background. The coordinates are different for both, and if I remember, both are on Street View.

I can see the confusion between a white truck and a white van. White truck was in the photo for the Charlotte Drive Arch; white van in the Clubhouse Arch.

Still have the screenshots, too:
