IT’S A GIANT HORSE ARENA IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EQUESTRIAN NEIGHBORHOOD!
Sorry for shouting, how is this not a great waypoint?

Hi @Howevil – it looks like an equestrian arena to me, but the burden is on the submitter to show that this (a) is what you claim it is, and (b) is eligible for inclusion in the Wayspot database by meeting the criteria. Equestrian arenas could be great places to socialize, so you might be able to successfully appeal this one.

You say this is an equestrian neighborhood, but reviewers might not be from that exact neighborhood and might not know that. Is this arena visible on street view / satellite view? The photo looks like an open dirt field with the exception of a few background objects that I can see, like the fence and the red structure which might be where officiators sit.

In the future, I suggest using the supplemental information section to explain nominations that might look generic either in the photo or description – or those that are difficult to verify with google maps. If you appeal or resubmit, you can add a link to the arena’s website , or you can add additional photos to give context. You might also want to use the entrance sign as the photo (if there is one) to help people placemark it.

Hi Howevil,

If I were to just go by the images and the description, I wouldn’t know that was anything special or linked to an Equestrian arena. The Description on its own doesn’t really convince me as to why this is eligible. Are there any signs? Is there a Website? Is there any testimonials? Has it been featured anywhere? Is it a tourist attraction? What is special about this location other than being important to the community that would want to make me want to go to that specific location?

Please don’t misunderstand, I am sure it’s important and you know enough about the location, but I would need to be convinced as to why I should approve it.

I can see that it seems to be what you say it is, but I grew up around horses. To alot of people it looks like mud and a fence! So that’s why it was rejected.

You’d be best off using pictures that show more of the entrance/fencing/facilities/gates/horses to show the context a bit better- so I would say try again. It may be accepted upon appeal if satellite and maps shows the facility and you provide a strong appeal statement and more evidence though if you prefer to try that

I live near a small city that has a lot of private horses and stables. My gut reaction is that this private property. I see 3 houses near this paddock. I do see that the streets are all named for horse “stuff”: palamino, roan, etc. So it could be a neighborhood amenity like you say.

But typically when I’m looking at neighborhood amenities, i look for parking spaces. You can tell the difference in a priavte driveway and a place meant to be shared often by the existence of parking spaces with lines.

At a horse ring/paddock, I’d expect to some kind of parking for trailers. There’s some worn dirt places where trailers or trucks could park, but that’s also what I’d expect to see at a private paddock.

I don’t see any stands where friends or family can sit to watch events. So i don’t think this is for any kind of official competition. There’s no sign for this place. How do i know this doesn’t belong to one family?

These are the things i think when im doing a review.

We’ve never put hard rules around stables or horse riding places that offer lessons to the public but are basically sitting out front of someone’s home property. My personal opinion is that games players don’t need to be drawn to those locations. Horses are large animals - they can spook and become a little dangerous. Also, owners often don’t want random people hanging around their horses.
