Rejection/nomination advice

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can give advice insight as to why my first nomination was rejected (I thought it was a good one)

I have a theory as to why, and so many have to re-submit it I am correct (area photo doesn’t show the pavement/pedestrian area clear enough I think)

But any advice much appreciated…

Many thanks Ash

I would definitely say that it would be due to lack of public access. Specifically your second photo shows the potential spot blocked by a fence that does not have a clear unlocked gate or walkway like you stated.

This is not correct. Even if access is prohibited for some people like a private garden it is still eligible, because people of the company have access to it.

Maybe read up on the Private property criteria?

I did state it was just outside of the factory site on the public footpath (obviously you can’t go into the factory site itself) but I take your point I’m not showing the footpath (where I’m stood taking the photo)

My mistake. I will have to try again with a more appropriate photo of the surrounding area.

I would agree that if you show the footpath with it, it will be a lot more clear for reviewers of this nomination, but maybe it will work on appeal? I don’t know if this business/factory or what it is😅 is generic or not.

Good luck with your nomination.

It’s a local cheese manufacturer (started as a landlord making cheese dipped in beer in his pub in the 60s) that have been based and grown bigger in the village ever since. So it’s more a history thing. Also mouse Pokémon love cheese right? :joy:

But thanks for your feedback. Sure it’ll help me with future nominations

The clafirication you quoted describes shared community spaces intended to be accessed by a community (including private community).

The factory territory lies on the other end of the spectrum, closer to “Location obstructs the driveways of emergency services or may interfere with the operations of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, military bases, industrial sites, power plants, or air traffic control towers”.

I’d say if the factory is indeed famous, and is a great place to explore – the factory entrance is better location for a wayspot, as the logical point of discovery.

Hi.

It would be I’ve purposely avoided the entrance area, as that would be frequently used by trucks/lorries etc.

The sign is along the main road through the village, so I put the wayspot on that. So you could still walk to it. But not have to go near where any vehicles/traffic are in operation. (If that makes sense) Trouble is it looks like my photo doesn’t show this location properly. I will bear that in mind for any future nominations. Thanks for taking the time to reply

Hello @Ruxpin64

Welcome to the forum!

A few thoughts came to mind as I reviewed your question and appeal.

  • Prior to entering the appeal, did you take note of the reason(s) thi was rejected? It would have said on the Contribution Management page for this nomination. Note that once you enter an appeal these go away.
  • How was the rejection email phrased? Was it from “our team” or “the community”? Being from our team often means it was rejected by Machines Learning (ML) prior to going out to fellow wayfarers.
  • I am struggling a bit with how this meets eligibility? It sounds like you are trying to get this to fall under “A great place to explore “. Does it have tours, tastings, a museum open to the public? Even an educational sign or plaque could help make exploration here more clear.

I do get the feeling this is a factory / industrial site for manufacturing of cheese. While something on the property or within could be eligible for staff if it’s within a non public area (think historical photos) or for the public if there is a tour but as it stands currently I’m not sure I see this easily passing but please share history or other relevant items with us and we can help make adjustments!

As a final note it does nothing to help your case mentioning items near by so in this case I would omit the part about the school .

Hi,

The rejection was from the community, but I have no information on why (hence coming here to ask for advice)

It was more as it is well known locally. The companies whole history is based in ilchester. (Even when they changed their name for 5 years, people still called it ilchester cheese… So they changed it back :joy:)

So it’s I guess exploration/local landmark (seeing as they’ve been in the village 85 years)

They do hold a summer fayre for people to visit site once a year etc…

But I’m prepared to accept it, if it’s local note is not interrupted the same way as I am seeing it. I just wanted to get others take on it.

And point taken with the appeal write up. I mentioned the school as it would be somewhere close by for them to explore on the way home etc… at least that was the thinking.

But I can certainly get some supporting material (ie historical photos etc)

Like I said first time. So all advice etc welcome

I’m going to say this was most likely rejected for being either a generic business, or inaccurate location, as you placed the pin away from the main entrance of the factory.

I see factories, even ones that have some history to them, as generic businesses, as many places have them, so they tend to be indistinct. As noted by others, if there are any other POIs at the factory, such as picnic areas or artwork, these may be eligible.

But for reference I’ve just pulled a photo from Google (has the name they had switched to on the building)

The photo I took was slightly to the left in front of the sign on the public pavement

That is not a place I would ever consider nominating. It’s just a factory where cheese is made, and factories may be seen as generic businesses, as many places have them, or a Wayspot being there could be seen as obstructing the work that happens there. It’s also against Wayspot criteria to misplace the location pin to be away from the actual POI, so placing the pin on the sidewalk is incorrect and could be seen as trying to manipulate the map, which is considered abuse.

Also, you may not want to mention if a place is near a school, as K-12 schools are ineligible locations, so it may not be helpful to reviewers, as well as the appeals team.

You also mentoion that there aren’t main Wayspots where you live, so it may be that you live either in a low-density and/or rural area. If so, you may want to take a look at this thread for help on what may or may not be eligible in these areas: Tips for Rural Nominators

If this happens in the future, one of these will usually make the rejection reason show up:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Log out and back in to Wayfarer
  3. Restart your browser

(It won’t work now since you have already filed an appeal.)

Welcome to the world of Wayfarer! You do have to adjust your thinking just a bit in order to be really successful. Don’t think about why this would be a good location for Pokemon Go. I know the prompt asks you that question, but don’t even mention the game. Instead, think about submitting Wayspots. A Wayspot must be a great place for at least one of the core criteria (exercise, exploration, or being social) on its own merits. If it just happens to be a great place to play Pokemon Go as well, that’s great! Here is a nice link to explanation of the criteria: Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center

Addressing the text of your appeal, needing pokestops has nothing to do with a Wayspot being eligible. I wish the prompt were clearer that we are submitting Wayspots, not Pokestops. Also, the way you talk about where you have placed the marker reads like you are placing it away from the object. Pins must be on the point of interest submitted. Even if you are trying to make the game location safer, it can be considered abuse to place it away from the the thing you have nominated. If what you are nominating is not safe to access, don’t submit it.

You have already been linked to a great topic with advice on where to look for things that meet criteria in areas where there isn’t much. I also really like this whole category: Criteria Clarification Collection

And just to make sure you aren’t disappointed when you do start getting wayspots accepted, I would suggest you read this article about the additional condition for them to become Pokestops: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

It really is a lot of fun once you get the hang of thinking like a Wayfinder. And we are here to help!

Hi,
lots of great advice and it is nice cheese :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

They do seem proud of their heritage.
Do they do any factory tours.
Have you tried going to reception there is pedestrian access.
It looks the sort of place where they may have old photos or something interesting for visitors to see.
