"(Optional) Supporting statement" in Ingress

Whoa!

I just noticed that Ingress now has a text field when reporting an invalid portal. And it looks like the options have changed in general.

From the “Your topic is similar to…” sidebar, it looks like PoGo has had this for a while?

Yes, we have been talking about this here:

PoGo did get it first, and it just rolled out for Ingress.

Strange how you can’t report it for being unsuitable for AR though… Not that I thought that was a particularly good reporting reason in the first place, but it is still odd.

I had noticed that difference, but only because I saw it mentioned on that same other post.

Since I only play Ingress, I wasn’t sure what other differences there might be.

I’ve always had a hard time understanding that one, even though I don’t do much AR scanning. Maybe they’ll remove it from PoGo, as I find it hard to prove how a Wayspot cannot be AR scanned in some way.

I’m guessing that Niantic wants the “not suitable for scanning” info so they know not to make it volatile (3 controller points), and not to include it on new games that might rely on existing scans.

Also just to collect info, is the category question that PokemonGo is asked but Ingress is (happily) not - they just want it in their database in case someone wants to draw a subset of Wayspots (for example, art things for an art game). For another purpose, not our games.

IOW this information helps the Wayfarer database be more valuable for selling, to app developers.

Interesting insight. Though if that is the case you’d think they would have included in Ingress over Pokemon Go, since more waypoints are used.
