OH! Optional Supporting statement
I hope Ingress will get that soon
I’m curious what it means to ‘Not be suitable for AR scan’?
And what will Niantic do about it? Will they keep the poke-thing (wayspot) on the game board, and turn off scan requests? Or will they want to remove it from the board?
I assume they don’t want to assign a scan task to something that can’t be scanned. At least I hope that is why they are asking.
“Not suitable for AR scan” makes me reeeeaaaal nervous.
The system flagged my comment…Really system…
We really need an Other option where we can leave a comment. Removal for not being able to do an AR scan makes no sense, as there are so many Wayspots that are hard to get a good scan for.
I’m confused… What eligible items can’t be scanned?
I don’t think that checking the box here is indicating that it needs to be removed. It is just an “issue” to be reported.
Hanging art is the first thing that pops into my head.
I would find a large, tall building to be a little tough. I also would have issues with large murals, especially if it’s unsafe for a scan if I need to go onto a street to get a good one.
Good point! They are very good about not having a vertical height requirement!
I can think of things that are too tall or too wide right off hand. Lots of things you can’t go all the way around in a scan like a mural.
Things above me , I understand. Wide things I can still scan.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but are scans in Pokémon Go different from the ones in Ingress?
Because I can still scan large areas in Ingress without needing to step into a street or put myself in a dangerous situation. With the exception of things significantly vertically above me.
I think I’ve only done 1 scan in PoGo, and I had to repeat it a few times before it was accepted. Plus, it’s not a big aspect in PoGo, except that it’s supposed to make stops/gyms maybe give out better stuff, but I’ve never really noticed a difference.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the next season, with Dynamax being introduced.
Wow and then would “not suitable” for AR scan apply to places like businesses and playgrounds where folks might not be okay with you pointing a phone at them or their children?
I’m sure Niantic has carefully thought through the implications of this change and has trained the staff handling these reports appropriately so that they know that the result should be disabling AR features for a wayspot, rather than treating it as a removal request.
I find it intersting that most people went to “not suitable for scanning.” In previous posts, I’ve started saying I might find a candidate to be “not suitable for an AR gaming experience.” After all, PoGO, Ingress, and other Niantic games are AR based, even if you opt out of the scanning or photo experience.

Do any of you have thoughts on if this is strictly a Pokémon GO feature (hence “Report PokéStop Issue”) or if this has Wayfarer Lightship ramifications, and how should the community go from here?
The only AR experience I know of at a Pokestop is to scan, so I guessed that perhaps they did not not want to put a scan task at a Wayspot that is awkward to scan. I think that was a logical statement, and not an irrational leap. If there is a different kind of “AR experience” involving a Pokestop, I don’t know about it. But I keep everything AR turned off that I can turn off and don’t do scans, so maybe there is something else.
