Perks For Submissions - Let's make Wayspots Standout for Submitters

For anything that gets added as wayspot in game… the user that submitted it should see it as a special color and / or design variation and be able to spin / interact with it maybe one a month or so to get special drops (special items you can ONLY get if its your wayspot!) since its your wayspot… how cool would it be for users to see what they submitted in game stand out? Would be an AWESOME incentive to get more submissions and make it a LOT more fun.

I like the concept but as a reviewer, it feels like we already have enough submission coal to filter through. I suspect that if they incentivized adding more submissions, it would increase the amount of ineligible submissions.

I know this sounds really cool at first. But there are some down-sides to making Wayfarer a competition. Here are the issues I think this could bring up:

Fairness:

  • This has a negative impact on people who happen to live in areas where there is not anything eligible to submit. We already struggle to make Wayfarer meaningful to them. I would hate to have another cool thing that they can’t benefit from.
  • This has a negative impact on people who happen to live in areas where the map is already full. New Wayfinders get that feeling of, “There’s nothing left for me to do.”

Encourages Bad Behavior:

  • I am concerned that people would vote to reject something they see while reviewing so that they could then go submit it themselves in order to get that in-game advantage.
  • I am concerned this would give people even more incentive to mislocate submissions just so they would appear in-game in order to get that advantage.

If we could overcome these issues, I have no objection to some kind of positive reinforcement. But in-game incentives feel like they would drive too much bad behavior.

I like the idea but if you live in an area where 1 or 2 players submit most of the stops (which would be me in the case of my area) I would feel like I have an unfair advantage over other players. Granted I did the work but I did it for all to enjoy.

The other issue is, if you live in a small rural area you may not have much to submit and if it is like some villages here, that may be just a single POI which basically would put you in a better position than everyone else which I would see as unfair since they don’t have the opportunity to submit anything

But for regular submitters that have a good track record, the opportunity to place some kind of Scopely Explore stop in difficult or barran areas to improve the game board would be great. Ideally based on number of submissions approved and that can be scanned and proved by something like scaniverse to ensure they are legit.

A lot of times in different areas you can just have nothing that will fit criteria and it leaves a large gap in the gameboard. I have seen towns and villages that seem to have everything on one side of town and have looked on the opposite side to see if there is anything that could balance things up a bit…but to no avail.

Stops could be as simple as Scopely Explore Logo or advertising for other Scopely games. They could even be time limited so that the disappear after a set period, day, month for instance.

Probably the ravings of an old man but it would be great to have the power to improve a game area for the games we enjoy, be it PoGo, Pick, MH etc.

It would be especially useful for bigger events on the calender. Like Go Fest, Go Tour, Wild Area in PoGo.

I don’t know if it would put a stop to malicious or fake submissions but it may help. The other thing would be that because they are temporary that they do not appear on the Scopely Explore Map or appear as temporary stops to ensure accuracy.

Anyway, just throwing ideas. There is pros and cons to the idea. Don’t know if it would ever happen but it may be doable, something along the same lines as the ambo power to place limited stops in campsites.

Small edit that just came to mind: the option to request a swap of wayspot in-game from time to time (where you have multiple wayspots in the same area) just to make games feel a little fresher would also be cool.

You make a good point about malicious voting. Didn’t even think of that.

I love that you are thinking out of the box, but I also think seeing your accepted Wayspot be used in game is its own reward. Some people on this forum have submitted a thousand (or more) Wayspots, some that they will never visit again. Also, many people do not want to be identified as the submitter, and choose to turn their name off in settings.

That why pogo use pogo community ambassador to create campsite pokestop /gym (subject to approval)

Yes. But most Ambos here are in cities so smaller areas don’t see any benefits from them as the campsites are also in the cities. It Just makes well populated play areas even bigger.

I think the ambos only have limited extra stops and gym(s) that they can add to the campsites.

If they were able and willing to go to smaller areas and drop some temp stops that would be beneficial but also extremely time consuming and costly which is why I suggested the above solution.

Also there are the other games to think of also, I don’t play them myself but I know others do. Would be better if it could help all games.

Well for that you need to bring the idea to pokemon go. Unfortunately its outside scope of Wayfarer.its also prone to abuse which is probably why pogo only allow Community Ambassador to create campsite.
