Playground has been an ingame P.o.i. for YEARS, suddenly removed

  • Wayspot Title: Glijbaan met klimwand Speeltuin
  • Location (lat/lon): 51.994958, 4.357857
  • City: Delft
  • Country: Netherlands
  • Additional Information (if any):
This p.o.i. had been in the game for years. It was a PokéStop even before I moved here and has been a gym for nearly 5 years. Suddenly the p.o.i. is missing from the game. Why? It’s a good quality wayspot and it meets zero removal criteria. Please re-instate this GYM, as a GYM. I know that is possible, it happened with another gym nearby as well.

As I can see another Wayspot called “Klimrek met touwenweb” right next to it, I suspect it has been marked as a duplicate of “Glijbaan met klimwand Speeltuin” and removed.

Usually, only one Wayspot for a small playground is made, and not every installation within it (depending on the size and variety of course). Maybe the ‘surviving’ Wayspot “Klimrek met touwenweb” is even older?

For the system to elect a new Wayspot in its place AND the decision of its status/form could take a day (or even a few) so if you have only just noticed it, it could sort itself out…?

no, that “Klimrek met touwenweb one” is much much newer.

I noticed the change yesterday evening, at around 8pm CET, which is normal sync time. Every time I tried to battle the gym I got the error “gym battle already completed”. I restarted the game and found out the gym was gone. I was absolutely fuming, so I decided to make my post this morning, the day after.

Indeed there was a clarification regarding playgrounds: Playgrounds - #2

Recently I see a lot of wayspot nominations for playgrounds that already have a wayspot. However, 1 wayspot is sufficient to mark the playground, and not every individual play object.

but then the other one should have been removed instead

I believe the Wayfarer system doesn’t choose the best option for one particular game (in this case: sparing the Gym spot and remove the other one). Maybe it chooses the one that got reported?

I agree it would be preferable in this case though, if Niantic would swap these two around. It could however, create an unwanted precedent.

The database is game agnostic, so indeed it doesn’t favor one game over another. I agree that the newest wayspot is the more logical one to remove in case of duplicates, but maybe this was just by randomness. Swapping this around would not reverse in-game results directly as it will result in a new sync.

It should have removed the newer wayspot then imo. Especially when the other one has been probably over 6 years old, maybe here since beginning of the game. This gym was often fought over by locals, and also raided at. The new gym is in a much less convenient location :frowning:

Not always. If the newer one is more up-to-date or accurate, it can make more sense to remove the older and outdated one instead. I’ve seen cases of duplicates getting approved because one submission is a distance away from the correct location. I’ve also seen a revamped playground getting approved, despite the playground already existing with an outdated title/photo.

I don’t think the system choses which one in a pair of dupes to remove. AFAIK it just processes based on player reports so if the older one was removed, that just means a player chose to report that one instead of the newer one.

which is inheritely stupid. The older one was the better wayspot. When one of two things is reported as duplicate, I think a human should look at it and decide which of the two stays instead of it automatically following the 50/50 on which of the two was reported

can a Niantic employee please help this community get their beloved Gym back?

Wayfarer is game agnostic so has no influence on how games ingest wayspots.
That is totally up to the respective game teams.

You could however request they restore the wayspot in question over the newer one, but there is no guarantee that the previous in-game state of that wayspot will be restored.

isn’t me posting this here requesting it back already; multiple people: including an ambasador, pointed me here

Right, this is the correct place to request the Wayspot be reinstated, but the game status is not controlled by the Wayfarer team. So even if it is reinstated, then it may not be a gym.

Edit: I took a look at the portals in the L14, and I will guess that something else in this area became a gym when that one was removed. So it most likely has the max of three gyms per L14 and this could not be a gym, even if the wayspot were returned.

Edit #2: This article explains how gyms are populated, if you are unaware:

something else has indeed become the gym. That should be able to be coded to be undone. I’ve seen gyms become stops again before. I am aware how gyms are populated, thanks though

We’re just trying to inform you that this forum is not the right place to get in-game status of wayspots changed. You can indeed get wayspots re-instated, but a request for in-game status reversal should be done with the respective game support (in this case Pokémon Go support).

Thank you, I did not know that. Wayfarer is super confusing on that part; the information on it could be so much better for the playerbase.

I totally agree that certain details are not evident.

But first anyways the wayspot itself should be restored otherwise the game teams cannot do anything either

yeah that’s what I’m trying here.
If anything we want the original wayspot back first
but is anyone from Niantic reading me here?
So far no response yet about actually restoring the wayspot

Yes but it might take some more time, a little patience is required here
