You should find a rejection reason on your contributions page Niantic Wayfarer . It will help us help you if you share screenshots of your nomination.
I Googled the title, and don’t understand how this would meet any of the criteria of a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social.
This means that their ML (machine learning ai) model did not recognize this as anything it had been taught to be eligible. Can you explain why you believe that it should be?
Does this mean not all public/government offices where a lot of people gather and socialize don’t count as a possible poi?
In which case what are the chances that a certain poi thats of the same entity will be accepted by the AI model?
You don’t go to the government offices to socialize where I am. If you do where you are, you should explain how.
We don’t know exactly how the ML model works, and we shouldn’t. I don’t know if it will reject all government office signs.
If you believe this has been rejected incorrectly, you can appeal the rejection. You get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before you can use it again.
I would not appeal this based on my understanding of what it is. But that may be incorrect.
Here in our country this office serves to issue drivers and motor vehicle licenses and registration. A lot of people go here to apply for such documents. The lines are long and people spend a lot of time going back and forth. In most cases it would be a good place to engage in banter with other people and also play the game while they wait.
I was under the impression that people here often play a lot of mobile games so why not make it a poi for niantic players.
About appealing it, there happens to be no appeal button on the submitted contribution. I was hoping i could get help on how to appeal for it as well.
Okay so that fact that you are waiting in a long line does not mean that is a place you go with the intention of meeting your friends. So I would not appeal this.
If you don’t have an appeal available, you will just have to wait to get one back. The button goes away when you don’t have one to use.

That is interesting. I’ve been seeing a lot of stops for government buildings, flagpoles in government offices, barangay halls and the like in the game. What are the chances that you get to meet some friends on these existing above mentioned stops that will also be of the same incidence with this nominated poi?
Which makes me wonder what really is the best place and way of nominating poi’s in this case that can be considered from the list of criteria (which is broad) provided.
Criteria has changed over time. Currently it is one or more of:
- A great place to exercise
- A great place to explore
- A great place to be social with others
Sometimes government buildings can have interesting or historic architecture. Or displays of memorabilia. Unfortunately I don’t think this will apply to your example.
Also it can happen that things that are not eligible pass. That’s why you may see things like flag poles.

A lot of places in the world had imported locations seeded just to have a place for people to play Pokemon Go in the first place that didn’t necessarily meet criteria. That could be another reason you may be seeing game locations that aren’t up to Wayfarer standards.
That’s remarkable.
I don’t usually fraternize with my neighbours for personal reasons. But one time i went to this office and found out from one of the officers processing my document that there was another officer who happened to be a neighbor where i live. We ended up becoming acquainted and started conversing when we see each other anywhere in our community.
Would that count towards the third bullet criteria?
I understand that not everyone is fascinated by interesting architecture or historic artifacts same goes with those not comfortable conversing with strangers. Though this game aims to build communities. Which makes it unique in a lot of ways.
Shouldn’t poi’s incline towards that? A venue where people physically communes and potentially connect.

Being something that you can do at a wayspot isn’t enough. It is something that is by design great for that purpose.

That’s cool that you met someone there that is now a friendly acquaintance. But let me ask, do you or would you go there regularly to hang out/ meet people? Or do you go there when you have to update paperwork? Would you bring a friend with you to go to this government office?
What Niantic/Scoply are aiming for are places that are currently great places based on the eligibility criteria. Not places to at a lot of people periodically have to go to.

It is fascinating you mention that how often will one hang out and bring friends at government facilities/offices, monuments, road markers, statues, water towers, grottos, facades, etc. I guess we’ll never know.
Playing the game where there are a lot of people gathering than in the middle of a rice field with a water tower as poi would be much more favorable to a majority.
My goal is to better understand the complexity of wayspot nominations and approvals to allow us players to contribute more efficiently, (albeit probono on our end) and to better the experience of a game where we spend time, effort, and financially on.

I do appreciate all the support you guys give. Im impressed at the timely manner and concise way of explaining the whys and hows.
A small step towards completing the pieces of the puzzle that this game is.
