Over 3/4 years ago a hotel in my area (a house and castle called Finnstown Castle) was closed and reopened as a government owned emergency accommodation and refugee centre.
Needless to say it is NOT accessible by the public anymore with police cordon near the front gate. Especially after some social unrest about the centre in recent years.
There are a few POIs inside it, including two gyms. I am trying to get them removed so that the rest of the S14 cell can have some gyms, and the local community better served by gyms in public areas.
Attaching some proof here as well as details of the POIs
I cannot get direct photos as again, It is inaccessible. If it ever reopens to the public or is redeveloped we will gladly re-nominate the stops
I have reported the stops but would appreciate additional support. And best not to encourage kids to try and sneak through the hedgerows to get in range of the gyms.
As a general principle, wayspots do not have to be publicly accessible. They have to be safely accessible to the people who are allowed to be there.
They also must not be on SFPRP (single family private residential property), on school grounds (or anything for U18s) or interfere with emergence services.
It may be that none of your wayspots fail this accessibility rule.
It sounds to me like those places still exist, so its not appropriate to remove them. There is no requirement for wayspots to be accessible to the entire general public. Wayspots can be in restricted areas as long as the people who have the right to be there can access them safely on foot (pedestrian access).
While it’s completely fair to argue that they are still usable by the residents, the only presence in the two gyms over the last 3 years have been accounts that we know are local kids who sneak into the grounds.
This has lead to cases of them being caught by security/police and their parents having to collect them/explain what the situation.
I realize it is tough to make a generalization that nobody residing in there is using the stops but based on all gym activity over the years that is a safe assumption myself and other local players have come to. We are also at a loss as to how to prevent further incidents of the kids being almost arrested for sneaking into areas that are now off limits or hurting themselves on security fences that have been put into the hedgerows.
We would believe that these are sensitive areas. Trust me we miss being able to stroll into the grounds, get a coffee and use the gyms but it’s been almost 4 years now since it’s been barred to all public access with increasingly heavy security presence.
The property owner can request wayspots be amended if they feel the wayspots are causing problems.
Kids being arrested for breaking into off-limits areas is nothing to do with wayfarer or Pokemon Go. There are plenty of nearby pokestops and gyms if people want to play Pokemon Go.
Even if there are no wayspot, doesnt means those kids wont sneak into any other dangerous area. The main problem is on the kids itself not wayfarer. There are plenty of other thing that might tempt kids to go and sneak.
Just a quick question, I was lead to believe that “not publicly accessible” was a rejection criteria for waypoint nominations. So why wouldn’t that apply here?
As for asking the owner to request their removal, the Irish Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth is highly unlikely to reply to my emails or calls in this case.
You are trying to get gyms moved to places that are better for you.
Consdider a resident of Finnstown Castle. Ignoring everything else that might be an issue, they probably only have those wayspots if they want to play Pokemon Go. They don’t have the choice of playing elsewhere.
Its not true. Wayspot in restricted area such as condominium, apartment, paid entry amusement park, business , gated community are eligible. Someone inside those restricted place might be playing.
I realize the insensitivity of this comparison and apologize in advance. Would an emergency accommodation centre not classify as a type of homeless shelter? Those are listed in your screenshot as not suitable. It has been such for several years now.
Apologies if I missed something, because I was addressing the “publicly accessible” issue, but have you reported the place for removal? Was that report rejected? Did you give Niantic evidence that this place is now a sensitive area?
