I’m so confused as to why all 3 of the pokestops I tried to create have been declined. My area is in desperate need of pokestops and yet somehow a pond with a fountain and a beautiful entrance sign/art were both declined. I literally don’t get it.
Hello and welcome,
Sorry to hear that your Wayspot nominations are getting rejected. We’d be more than happy to take a look and see why this is the case. Please feel free to post screenshots of your nominations for further assistance.
If the “fountain” you nominated is like this one, it’s ineligible, btw:
Welcome to the forum @TayOlive13
Please post screenshots of your rejected nominations from your contributions page including the rejection reason(s) and we will try to help advise.
(This really should be in Nomination Support if you or a mod wants to move it there.)
If the sign is one of those outside of neighborhoods, they aren’t specifically clarified as ineligible, but I fail to see how they meet criteria:

Must meet at least one of the three eligibility criteria
- A great place for exploration
- A great place for exercise
- A great place to be social with others
Hello @TayOlive13
It’s hard to know best place to post a message when new to the forum, so I am moving this to nomination support.
If you can provide the information we can help see if there are any issues and give advice. We can help you decide if appealing would be a good idea.
There are also fellow wayfinders happy to help look around your area for things to submit.
They meet criteria because they are on a well used walking path and it is a beautiful piece of architecture. There’s really no reason it shouldn’t be a poke stop and there are plenty of them around town that are poke stops, so what makes this one ineligible?
Thank you so much for this! I am sorry for posting in the wrong spot and I appreciate the direction in where to post next time. I’m going to upload the screenshots now
being ON a walking path does not make it a great place FOR exercise.
i would accept if it actually does have value as an art piece. but i haven’t seen yours. would you like to post screenshots?
just because you see them as pokestops does not mean they are eligible. the could have been accepted in error, or there could be more to the nomination than you are aware of.
I believe that’s the case here there are a few benches, picnic tables and a nice walking path around the pond so it’s unfortunate that this can not be a poke stop.
Hey! I’m trying to upload but I don’t have good service here. I will upload screen shots as soon as I can. I just moved to this town, Matthews, and there are not a lot of pokestops. I’ve seen much worse ones in Atlanta, where I played for the last 4 years. I’m just trying to advance the game here in this town
oh Matthews! paging @BlameJamal for the Charlotte area
(he likes neighborhood signs btw. i don’t get it.)
Hahahaha well thank you. I think there are not that many interesting things around here so neighborhood signs have to fit the bill for us Matthews people
HEY! I’m in Charlotte! I’ve nominated a few things in Matthews! There are lot of things out there. We should talk. Here is one of my Matthews nominations. Thanks @cyndiepooh
That’s sad, fountain aerators are marketed as fountains and are intended to dress up an area. If a city or other entity didn’t care to provide this there are aerators that function just as well without creating a fountain. You can also get fountain aerators with color options for nighttime lighting.
If the argument was, “you can’t walk up to it”, barring anyone having the ability to walk on water, I would understand. That example fountain aerator is definitely not very impressive though.
Too bad that thread is locked, do I need to start trying to remove those fountains now?
Awesome! I’m happy to be here based on this thread and what I’ve learned, maybe my nominations just weren’t up to standard. I’m going to try to do better! I’d love to talk more though!
not being able to walk up to it is just as strong of an argument that has and is being used against them. they’re not eligible.
i see why you feel it has potential since it is prettier than most. @BlameJamal may be more able to give you some pointers since this is not something i submit. i still don’t know if i would accept it, but some thoughts from me:
pergolas are usually eligible when they encourage being social. does this one provide a place for people to be social?
you could give your nomination more of a “yes, of course this should be a pokestop” vibe by straightening and cropping the photo to square. there is nothing wrong with your photo, but you would want people leaning to yes.
i know the prompt tells you to explain why something would be a good pokestop, but don’t even mention the game. you are submitting a wayspot. explain how you think this meets any one (or more) of those three basic criteria i mentioned. you can also provide links to prove anything you might need to, but this shows on street view, so there should be no problem with proving location.
sometimes i get the most useful feedback from people who don’t love my nomination, because then i know what i need to work on proving.
Admittedly I skimmed the linked thread and missed the accessible bit. Saying it isn’t a fountain because it has a utility function still seems incorrect to me and that’s really all I wanted to share.
If you search for the benefits of a pond aerator, there are many results that come up. Yes, a fountain style aerator may make the pond look nicer, but it has some bigger benefits, like helping reduce algae. This link has some good info on the benefits of pond aerators (and yes, they’re in the middle of ponds usually, so inaccessible to pedestrians).
