Pokémon GO and Walmart Partnership

Link below. Just a reminder that game sponsorships do not impact criteria or how to vote.

Starting October 20, all Walmart Supercenters across the United States will have more PokéStops and Gyms!

I was worried for a second that this would mean the warehouse eligibility was going away. Thanks for the reminder that they’re still eligible!

I wonder if this will affect the Walmart murals that have already been added to Lightship if they happen to be within proximity of the sponsored location and how it will affect them being added going forward.

I see this just being sponsored stops or gyms

Thats a good point. I just recently passed one because it was a really nice one specific to the town it was in. Since most of these tend to be at the front where the carts are and I imagine thats where the sponsorsed ones are going to be they might get overwritten  but maybe the “will have more” puts a bit of hope in the air that they could be mindful of existing stops? Not holding out much hope tho

I am concerned both from the point of view of both already approved Wayspots existing, but the newly added ones land on top of them and make neither useable, and from the possibility that the game board will be rebalanced to exclude the approved Wayspots. I hope the latter doesn’t happen and that edits to create reasonable spacing can be allowed.

I’m not too worried, and I’ve submitted a few. Right now, there are sponsored stops in PoGo at Target, promoting the TCG. One that I go to has a Starbucks sponsored stop that’s been there since December 2016. The sponsored Starbucks stop is where the shop is in the store, but the Target sponsored stop is at the store sign by the sidewalk near the parking lot. The other Target has a Starbucks, but doesn’t have a Starbucks stop, so the Target stop is at the entrance of the store.

Keep in mind that the mural Wayspots may be in Ingress, as they don’t get the sponsored stops/gyms in PoGo, nor are these stops/gyms on the Lightship map.

Also, there have been plenty of Power Spots at Walmarts already, either for their optical centers, auto centers, and other services offered there, like restaurants, and they are quite active. So, not surprised at all that this sponsorship is happening.

Sponsored stop pin locations are so random. I have 3 new ones for those Pokemon cards. One is waaaaaaaaaaaay out in the mall parking lot.

There is an antique car on top of a Circle K near me that’s a PoGO Gym. When the Circle K sponsorship started here they put another gym basically on top of it, which was super fun…

It took a couple of weeks but they removed the sponsored gym and left the existing Pokéstop where it is. I suspect the same thing will happen here.

But who knows what the PoGO team will do.

in partnership with Walmart, Niantic can finally Roll Back some of the junk that’s been getting approved lately!

I see what you did there!

So, I know some were wondering how this would affect the mural Wayspots. I stopped at one of the Walmarts where I got the mural there approved, and was shocked to find not 1, not 2, but 3 sponsored stops.

The purple stop is the mural, whereas the gym and blue stops are all Walmart sponsored stops. And yet, Targets only got 1 sponsored stop for their TCG partnership!

Thought I’d give an update, just in case some of the mural Wayspots do disappear from PoGo, and we have a possible reason to give.

Yeah noticed this at my local Walmart too. Very shocking that its seems to be 3 sponsorsed spots on top of existing ones but nice at the same time.(wondering if for PoGo every Walmart got 2 spots & a Gym? Since thats how the 1 I checked was set up and how yours is  anyone have any that just came with stops and not a Gym)
