The Global Review Challenge has led to a huge increase in reviews of Wayspot edits. Among them, I found a problem with Powerspot title editing.
Some are changing the Powerspot title of a store that has already closed to the name of the next store that moved in, and some are changing the Powerspot of a business located on the upper floor of a tenant building to the store occupied by the tenant on the first floor. Since there are no images, they can be easily reworked. The submitter should have no malicious intent, but we do not believe it is appropriate.
Powerspot should stop submitting only edits to the title.
I understand why you think this way. I don’t know what the right answer should be. Power spots don’t necessarily have to meet Wayfarer criteria, so the rules about re-purposing might not apply to them.
It would be nice if reuse through title editing was not prohibited, but we are concerned that players could be punished as a result of their well-intentioned input.
Some of the Power Spots in my area have had the wrong titles, especially for banks that have changed their names, but are the same company. I’ve submitted title edits for them to make them as accurate as possible.
I’m also submitted title edits for Power Spots are apartment buildings/complexes. It’s somewhat confusing to just have “Patricia Ann” on the map, not “Patricia Ann Apartments,” which is a title edit I submitted back in December and got approved.
You either have to use your best judgment with these edits, or skip them if you don’t want to review them; I’ve also used the Report button to report any edits for places marked as being closed on Google Maps, so that’s another option. I’ve gotten some during the challenge, and most I’ve had to open up Google Maps to do some digging as to what the correct title should be. They really haven’t been that hard to do, IMO.
Since PowerSpot was originally imported from an online map service, it is not too difficult to determine where the location is, whether it is still open, and whether other businesses are operating at that location by searching. However, I am concerned that PowerSpot’s data can be easily rewritten, which could be a factor in disciplinary action being taken against a well-meaning user. I understand the need to edit the title. Still, it is so unreasonable that a user who rewrites old data that has been blended in and has good intentions would be punished.
Please keep in mind that many powerspots are NOT imports, but rather wayspots that didn’t meet the pokestop/gym inclusion rules. When Ingress is cut off, there won’t be any other way to edit them, unless Scopely implements something else.
No, what I saw was where it was imported because there was no image.
