A local coffee shop that is already on the map is now under new management and has a new name.
I was unable to take an image due to parked cars so tried a Title Change first which was quickly refused. I appealed including a link to the business website but the appeal was refused
Ignoring the reason: “We reviewed your contribution and determined that it is not related to the object this Wayspot represents” which is wrong…
What would be the best way to deal with this?
Start with an “Image Change”?
Remove current waypoint then re-submit the new one?
Suggestions:
All edit options should have a text box where we can explain why we are making the request.
Allow multiple edits in one go, edit Title, Description and Image would make it clear why it needs the edits.
Niantic has made many statements here that when it is a new business that has taken over the old building - not just a name change with the same ownership - the correct procedure is to report the old one for removal and submit a new nomination if the new business is eligible.
I’m thinking now how I’d have to report twice, await a decision twice, and then submit the new thing twice if I wanted it back in both Pokémon GO and Ingress.
I wonder what of those statements will hold over as “truth” under new management and what policies like this will develop and diverge from what we’ve come to expect.
If its still same type of business just the management that has changed …
You could try presenting the whole package in the help bubble? Photo and text.
Agree. Removing and resubmitting is too much work. Even submitting valid nomination is subject to emily and community mood sometimes. I personally will just leave it. There are still many thing to submit, i dont have time to deal with this kind of edit
Okay, well it seems the community and ambassadors past and present are saying that following the advice Niantic has given as I have explained is dumb, so I will refrain from trying to help.
But sometimes it’s worth a try if it is a very similar before and after situation- not uncommon in the U.K.
By asking them you are just trying to present the situation as a whole to the team, for them to decide.
If they say no, they then have all the evidence that it should be removed and you can get on with the remove and resubmit process.
You replied with a valuable piece of information and nobody found that dumb.
The OP asked what’s the best way to actually help keep the database up to date, or is it not worth bothering with it? It’s understandable that they felt frustrated.
Any new nomination would require only a few steps and if you are successful you get to see the result as a new point on the map. Hooray!
When Niantic broadened their definition of ‘repurposing’ they failed to notice that they were demanding extra work and extra risk with no additional reward. You and your community may even be punished if you’re half-successful or Niantic says you made your attempt incorrectly.
If Wayspot modifications require redoubled effort going forward and they don’t change their policy it simply becomes ridiculous. All of the effort and risk falls on a player who is voluntarily working (for free) on some other folks’ databases.
Help chat bubble.
You can upload files so photos etc.
it might help to put the whole picture of what is happening to them instead of one piece.
If having seen it as a whole the say no, you will need to go down the remove and replace route.
To be honest, on this occasion that might be the way I go. It is a Gym so a remove / re-submit is going to cause a shift of the Gym so may be more hassle than its worth.
Is anybody keeping a list of suggestions for when Scopely fully take over. Maybe a “New Business Name” option in the Edit screen that allows to edit multiple fields…
Its also free labour for Niantic, whos main value lies in the Database we create.
In my opinion, its just too much of a hassle to go though the whole process, while damaging your playboard by removing gyms and having lost a wayspot for weeks or even month (or even worse: get the new coffeeshop rejected, because coffe shops are by no means candidates that are very likely to be accepted.)
I wouldn’t bother. Just leave it there. Maybe use edit challenges to get through new pictures and a title, if you like. But that’s about all i’d invest in that.
