Hi all! I’ve been submitting wayspots for over 5 years now and just recently noticed a lot of walking and biking trails in my city don’t have signs or markers on them. These trails span through out multiple neighborhoods and connect different parks to one another. Are these still valid wayspots to submit since they promote exercise, or do they specifically need to have a sign or marker to submit them? Want to make sure I’m not submitting terrible submissions and waste my time if not. Thank you in advance for any knowledge or advice you can give me!
Hi,
For something to represent a trail, there has to be some tangible object to act as an anchor. Usually that would be a trail marker but it might be a bridge, bench or gateway or some other object.. a trail marker is usually the best thing.
Broadly speaking, these are acceptable, roughly in order of likelihood of acceptance:
- A trail marker with the name of the trail in some permanent material such as a metal sign or plastic marker
- A trail marker with the name of the trail on an adhesive label, or hand-made or a barely legible or damaged sign.
- A trail marker without the name of the trail but with some supporting evidence that there IS a trail.
- Some other notable object that forms part of the trail, with supporting evidence.
A sign indicating a simply Public Right of Way (PROW) is more marginal, these vary from country to country but there does need to be some sort of “trail” involved. Again, the definition of what is a trail varies but it has to be something more than just a road, sidewalk or cut-through path.
If there’s no marker and no evidence of a trail then this could be a sign of abuse. Players often make up trails to get something close to their home, this is a great way to get your account suspended.
Hello and welcome @zambiefighter
Could you provide an example so that we can understand more about the situation.
A website about the routes, preferably with a map of a route. A picture to show what the route looks like as you walk.
I’m going to move this to nomination support as that is a better place to help with finding and structuring a submission.
You may find this clarification useful:
I have been able to use a photo of the entrance gate when there isn’t a marker, for example, when I have a link to prove this is a maintained city greenway.
