Question how to get a pokestop/gym up on a Home Depot?

Hey how does one set up a stop around a Home Depot? What are options to select? I been trying to get a stop onto my store since I seen places like Walmart having pokestops on them… any suggestions?

Those Walmart stops are sponsored by Walmart. They pay to have them there.

Home Depot would not normally meet criteria. There could be individual cases where something eligible is set up at individual stores, such as a Little Free Library, or a hometown mural.

Welcome @vegeta7senpai

It may be tricky to get something like a Home Depot wayspot approved. You would need to show how it satisfies one or more of the eligibility criteria of being:

  • A great place to be social with others
  • A great place to explore
  • A great place to exercise

Walmarts not only have a sponsorship currently, but also have unique murals representing their area just inside the main entrance

Maybe you could describe your specific location more if it has something unique?

Welcome to the forum, btw! (I thought someone else was typing a welcome message  ) There is a lot of information here to explore. The main core criteria is that a Wayspot must be a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social. You can start learning about criteria here:

Hey there @vegeta7senpai, here is an example of a Walmart mural. Check and see if your Home Depot has some similar and you can nominate that.

The initiative you mentioned, “activating your own store as a pokestop,” was part of a regional economic revitalization program during the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, Mr. Kawashima, who was then vice president of Niantic, announced that “pokestops and Gyms could be activated for free on PoGo for one year,” and I have actually seen such pokestops.
If my memory serves me correctly, this program was free for one year, after which it could be continued for a fee.
However, it is unclear whether this program is still ongoing at this time.

This is incorrect, initiative you speak of was for small businesses. The businesses in question are large cooperations that would go through a seperate paid sponsorship deal.

Oh, I see.
I don’t live in North America, so I couldn’t understand what kind of store he was talking about just from the text.
Certainly, my program wouldn’t be suitable for a chain store.
Thank you for the correction.

Wow, that crazy then… been trying figure out if there a way to get a stop on my store where I work at. Now there is a church that is like next door ish could be an option. But there a pond too. Wish they could add a feature could auto spin some stops when driving by some stops. But didn’t know Walmart had some sponsors then. But thank you.

You’re not supposed to be driving while playing, which is in the Player Guidelines. The games that Wayfarer provides game play locations for are meant for pedestrian exploration, hence why there is a warning that comes up when you’re in a moving vehicle, as well as the warning when you open the games to stay away of your surrondings.

I would recommend nominating the church, as most places of worship meet criteria as great places to explore, as well as possibly being great places to be social. The pond may not meet criteria on its own, but if there are other things around it, such as picnic areas, a dock, or scenic view benches, they may be eligible.

You can use pogo + for this

Yeah was gonna say, thats been an official product for years!

Definitely submit the church, they are fantastic places to be social and can also be a place to learn and explore religion and history.

The pond could possibly work - is there anything man made there- a bench or viewing platform looking out over the water for example? Could make a viewpoint PoI

Ponds can be tricky, which is why I suggested other possible POIs that may be around it. It could be a retention pond, which is usually just seen as infrastructure, as they help with flood control.

@vegeta7senpai Another thing to keep in mind with ponds is that aerators there are not fountains, but also infrastructure. They help to keep the ponds clean and circulate the water. Some have gotten onto the map, but there is clarification that these are not allowed per criteria (they also typicaly can’t be reached on foot).

Just remember to follow the criteria (a link was previously provided) when nominating, and if you have any further questions about nominations, feel free to post here or in Nomination Support.
