I received the warning for posting a picture as I was updating and upgrading POIs in my area, as one of the POIs needs to change, since I am new to the area. I actually posted a image of a brand-new place sign, but Niantic think that is malicious… Since the monument was relocated from the northeast to the southwest corner and dedicated on Veterans Day last year, and they installed a new sign earlier this year.
Hey there, without the details visible it’s hard to give some good advice here.
It sounds though that some object got replaced with a new sign IRL?
If this has happened, then updating with a new photo is not possible, as the object has changed significantly enough that removal + new nomination is the preferred way by Niantic. Repurposing an existing Wayspot into something else is not allowed.
If you feel comfortable to do so, you can post the details of your warning here for further help and suggestions.
Ok, then it’s exactly the situation like I described, if the friendhsip circle got removed and replaced with the veterans circle, please report the friendship one for removal, and submit the veterans one as an entirely new wayspot. As such, the warning is correct per Niantic guidelines (to further clarify, I don’t make any rules)
I might have confused what object is gone and which one is now in place, apologies
I have that same question as well. I’m wondering where it’s located, so we can view it in Lightship to see what it is there.
I did find this similar Wayspot on Lightship at 41.931886999999996, -87.989667. This is the one in question?
That was I nominated last month! I couldn’t move the wayspot so I nominated as a new spot!
Ah, found it:
It was moved from 41.932066, -87.988416 to 41.931886999999996, -87.989667 it appears. Street View though is from 2022, when the Veterans Circle was still in front of the Walgreen’s.
The Veterans Circle Wayspot in front of the Walgreen’s should actually be removed, not updated, since it has completely changed. Once removed, then the new Friendship Circle can be submitted.
So should I request a removal here?
Usually it would be in the order: Request removal in game by reporting, if rejected, come back here
The Veterans Circle has been removed last year and has relocated as I nominated the new wayspot.
Yes, because the Veterans Circle is no longer at 41.932066, -87.988416, the NE corner of Lake and Addison, you should request removal. If you do so via PoGo, you can use the comment box to provide more info.
Niantic doesn’t want us to repurpose Wayspots, with some exceptions, mainly murals or a tennis court that’s now a pickleball court. While it’s still a circle, it’s not the Veterans one, since that was moved. Once the old Wayspot is removed, you can then submit a new one for the Friendship Circle.
Thanks. I just learned the lesson! I will request for removal whenever I have a chance.
Hi all
One question. Isn’t it possible to ask for a location edit via helpchat instead of removing? As I understood the veteran circle moved and isn’t demolished
Yes, but they already submitted a new Wayspot, as it was moved to the SW corner of the intersection. Would have to have been a help chat location edit, since it’s over 10 meters.
All things to keep in mind for the future!
Thanks for confirmation
I don’t think that it’s to late to do it now.
Ok the steps should have been in the other way, but @tobuadantoq can go to the helpchat and give any proof that will needed to move the veteran circle to the right corner.
And than the new submission can take place (if the inclusion rules are fitting).
Or am I wrong?
It is too late. They submitted a new Wayspot at the new location under the title Village of Addison Veterans Circle.
Yeah, it’s only a general list, but trying to change a Wayspot to be something else can be seen as abusive by Niantic. Niantic may have viewed the changes you tried to make as being fake or inaccurate because it didn’t match with what’s on file in Lightship.
It’s just a warning, so you can still access Wayfarer. Take all of this as a lesson as to what to do in the future when a Wayspot has changed.
