Got a warning that is an absolute joke

Basically I’ve been warned for having tried to move a POI away from its correct location. But when I check my contributions page, I don’t see anything named like the POI I got warned for. I haven’t done anything wrong with my account, yet I received a warning.
I want to know what Niantic is going to say for this, altough I’m pretty sure they’re going to find lame excuses like “we can’t write about it for privacy reasons, yet warning is correct”.

I already know Niantic lost so many devoted and loyalist players who sacrificed their time and money to improve your games for free. I wouldn’t like to think that I’m going to quit for the same reason, and in case, I’d spread my experience.

Sorry about the rotten experience  I hope posting here can find some resolution.

The email says “…permanent suspension of your Wayfarer App account.”

Did you use the standalone Wayfarer App or have you strictly been submitting through your Pokémon GO/Ingress app(s)?

I don’t use any wayfarer app. even if I ever registered, I never used it.

What about help chat and/or forms?

Ok, then. My first thought was that the Wayspot Title may have been edited and either your email reflects the original title and the contribution page was updated or the other way around.

Tagging @NianticAaron and @NianticAtlas if they can provide another look.

Good luck finding resolution.

This is my thought, too. I would look at all location edits and see if any of those could use this new name.

Hey,

Thanks for reaching out.

I have sent you a DM with all relevant details. Our policies do not allow us to share any details related to an account publicly. So, I would not be able to respond publicly to your dispute in this matter.

Thanks,

Did you get a response? Can you share some details if you’re comfortable?

I think the OP doesn’t want to share the details and that’s fair. I respect their choice.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any theories on what might have happened?

I don’t think it’s right to speculate. Being the OP hasn’t said anything else since Niantic contacted them with a DM, let’s just leave it be.

Appearently, they said that mail was linked to PTC account (despite I always log in with google). My edits were not farther than 5 meters, to improve map. 5 meters on the map are irrelevant, but more POI can appear, to make games better.

If they check Facebook groups, they’re full of cheaters using apps to fake location. I wonder why they don’t focus on such players instead of loyalists improving game.

Thank you for clarifying.

It can be tricky to know which email to look at.

What you have described is moving wayspots small distances in order to specifically meet the inclusion rules of one of the games that uses the lightship data base.

Although you view this as improving the game, Wayfarer has been clear that this is wrong.
It’s a hard lesson to learn however having had a warning, the best advice is to stop doing such edits.

Good decision by Niantic on giving u that warning. Pls learn from this to avoid being permanently banned

But I got that warning when the actual POI in real life moved 10 meters. If the real POI moves why is it against terms of service to edit and update the location?

You can appeal the warning with evidence and it will get overturned if needed.

If I remember correctly you also used a Description edit to describe the move. That is why you specifically got a warning.

I emailed back on the email I was sent. Is that how I do it? This was in the summer so it won’t let me email now it says closed. At the time I did email the Google maps link that shows the park sign in its new spot. Or is there a different map system they want instead of Google? Thanks.

Right but my daughter sent in the edit after that because I thought that was the problem and she got the same warning so there is no reason for this.

There may be no reason for her warning. But there is for yours. She should follow the instructions from Aaron.

There is a link to appeal at the bottom of this article: Wayfarer Abuse Enforcement Ladder Policy — Wayfarer Help Center
