Recieved an unfair warning

This morning, I received a warning stating that I had been incorrectly reviewing Wayspot nominations by failing to properly assess them according to the Wayspot criteria and guidelines.

However, the nomination in question was clearly set to an incorrect location—too close to another Wayspot to appear in the game. As such, I reported it. You can find the Wayspot in question here: intel link

From the satellite map, it’s obvious that this Wayspot should be located inside a building, not in a forest or under a tree.

This area has many misplaced Wayspots, so I’ve always been extra cautious when reviewing nominations here.

In my opinion, receiving a warning for reporting a nomination with a blatantly incorrect location suggests that Niantic is tolerating or even condoning such behavior. This has a significant and negative impact on the gaming experience for all players in this region.

I hope the community can help address this issue and ensure fair gameplay for everyone.

I would reply to this email stating what you said here. Please let us know what they say.

I can appreciate from what you have said that this has not helped explain what is deemed to be wrong.
Maybe a team member can explain further.:woman_shrugging:

I have received this kind of email and it is infuriating. This reads like someone did not like that their nominations were being rejected and complained. I have received these in the past and had hoped they had stopped this.

I don’t know what to suggest from here. Maybe staff will start a DM with you explaining in more detail what error you are making in reviewing. At least tell you what the pattern they have identified is.

It’s possible that it’s more than one review you did that is at issue. I would think that for most who get a warning like this it’s more than just one review.

Hopefully staff can chime in here and give you a better answer. What you received back does seem as if what you told them wasn’t quite taken into account, thus why I think there could be more to the story.

Yes, the email mentioned a “pattern in your reviews” so I agree that Niantic thinks it is more than just this one. But what pattern? What is the OP reviewing incorrectly?

This drives me crazy that we are supposed to use our “good judgment” but can get an email like this if someone disagrees with our judgment. And we have no clear instructions on how to reject past

Is it picking “Generic business” when they think I should have chosen “Not Distinct”? Or is it using “Private property” to mean private property instead of SFPRP?

If they are going to send these emails out, there needs to be MUCH more explanation of what was actually done incorrectly. And until then, they should not be sent.

Yes, I am a little bit sensitive on this issue.

I would create an appeal separately so that a different person gets to look at my case.

I think what’s happening here is that you’re reporting them and not suggesting a new location. Which might be why they’re saying you’re not reviewing them correctly. If you don’t know where in a building an object is located, it’s best just to skip rather than just reject. If there are too many stops together, that’s not a reason to reject either. They can be added to the background and perhaps be used by other niantic games.

This was not the email that says you can appeal it. Those have this

Both of these are possible. The pattern could be reporting instead of correcting the pin, or rejecting because of being too close. [Idk how you would reject for being too close, so I did not quite follow that part, tbh.] But the team should have told the op that is what they had a problem with, not us.

The OP was obviously familiar with the example review, but how many people would have no idea what the reference nomination was? Unless you have the review history tool installed from wayfarer.tools, there is no way an explorer can look up how they reviewed any specific example. If the team is going to send out these educational emails, they need to explain the behavior they considered wrong, not just these “You figure out what you did and stop it,” messages.

You can still appeal it.

The subject Wayspot appears to have been removed.

This appears to be a pillar on the roof of a corridor on the university campus, which presents the history of the CCP’s 100-year struggle. Aerial view shows the arc-shaped red roof of this corridor. We can confirm “1980 特区建设” and “1984 小平您好” in the same series, but it is difficult to figure out the correct location of the candidate “1985 打破大锅饭” using only aerial photos and Google Maps, as no street view exists. And in light of the surrounding information, it obviously cannot be in the woods north of that tennis court. If you rejected this as an inaccurate location, I believe you made the right decision.

You cannot create an appeal for this in Wayspot Appeals. If you read what this forum is for, it is to appeal rejected Wayspot removal appeals that are valid, or to request restoration of a valid Wayspot that has been removed.

Staff does monitor the forums, and they may take a further look into this. Being in Review Support is the right topic for this, as it deals with reviewing, and the OP is requesting support for that area of Wayfarer.

LOL, did you even read the conversation? We were talking about appealing the warning, not appealing on the forum. I have read what this forum is for. I suggest you read the conversation before jumping in.

I have been. They received a warning for reviewing issues that Niantic says they have been seeing, not for anything that the OP has nominated. The OP already appealed the warning via the link in the email, and provided a screenshot of that response.

Right now, there isn’t much more that can be done, so we’re hoping staff will take a look and provide more info here in this thread.

I don’t know if you’ve ever received a warning, but Cyndie has, and has come here to the forums after appealing via the link in the email to get further clarification.

You might be a little confused. The OP replied to the email like Cyndie suggested. Mystogan suggested they use the link to create a seperate appeal, instead of replying to the warning. I too would also reccomend this method.

I thought you had to have actually had action taken to use the appeal. til

I’m sorry no one told you there is a link you can appeal to at this site. It’s at the bottom of the page.

Hopefully someone else can take a look after using the link. If you do get more info, feel free to share.

No, a warning can be appealed via the link on the help site, too. It says “punishment,” so that can cover warnings and bans, not just bans.

Think of a warning like a strike in baseball; it’s still a sort of punishment to the batter, as if they get 2 more, their out.

A warning is noted on accounts, and if there are any further issues, further action can be taken. So, if the Wayfarer believes that the warning shouldn’t have been given out as a punishment, they certainly can ask for removal.
