I work in a children’s hospital, and I noticed that there were not really any waypoints that were accessible by patients/visitors within the grounds. I found this surprising, so I recently started wayfaring. I have had some success and this led me to start wayfaring around my community as well.
Unfortunately, the outcomes have not always been the most logical to me. I have had some spots I thought might be a stretch sail through in a few days and some others that I thought were a lock get bogged down for a month only to be rejected (even after appeal).
Here are a few examples, maybe you can help me to understand why they were rejected and what I can do better in the future.
Description: This garden is on the first floor of the hospital. Come here to rest and relax.
Additional information: A public area in the hospital for patients and visitors to connect with a bit of nature.
Description: A music studio for children on the first floor of the children’s hospital that hosts karaoke, music making, and interactive educational activities for patients. All children are welcome under supervision.
Additional information: This is an educational space for children who are patients in the hospital to have fun and explore new experiences.
Description (copied directly from the informational sign by the aquarium): There are 1080 liters of water in this aquarium at the hospital cafe, a lot huh?
Additional information: This is located in the lobby of the children’s hospital. Children are often seen enjoying the variety of fish in this large aquarium.
Description: This traffic control box was decorated to commemorate the 2022 La Vuelta cycling competition since the route passed by this point.
Additional information: There is also a major tram stop located here.
Not completely useless as this rejection reason, coupled with the decision coming around 22 hours after submission, and an email stating that the rejection is from “our team” let you know that the nomination is being rejected by the ML (machine learning ai) model. It usually means that you need to take a photo that makes it clearer what you are submitting.
For the garden, music studio, and aquarium, if there is a sign, try taking a photo of that.
For the box art, I am not sure if the graffiti that has been added to it caused the rejection. Is there an angle without the additions?
With the children’s hospital, there are going to be some reviewers who think this is an inappropriate location even if you get it into community review. Hopefully some other explorers can help you with those issues.
Thank you for your response. I have seen this recommended elsewhere. For example, there is a sign by the aquarium. As far as I can tell there is not a way to add more than one picture to a submission, so would you take a picture of the sign instead of the point of interest? That seems less likely to get people to actually explore it, but if that is the recommended convention then I can do that.
Personally, I would submit the nomination with a clear photo of the sign, then if it is accepted, I would add a photo that is more interesting and upvote that on the game location.
If nothing works to get past the ML rejection, you can appeal. You get two appeals, each on a 20 day timer before you can use it again. The appeal will be reviewed by human reviewers, not ML. No guarantees.
@cyndiepooh has described what to do with main photo.
I wasn’t sure if you also meant the supplementary photo in order to show the sign and the place etc to prove location/ explain better. You can create and submit a photo mosaic.
Some software will allow you to put together 2 or 3 photos and having done that, upload as part of your submission the mosaic as your supplementary - you can’t do this for the main photo.
You can even draw circles etc on the mosaic to draw attention to specific objects that you might then refer to in the text.
