Nomination got rejected real quick

hello,

I am quite new to wayfarer and that is why I am reaching out to you: can you help me with what could be the reason why this nomination was rejected?

I submitted this nomination and not even a day later it was rejected under the criteria “does not meet the criteria”.
As to my opinion it meets the criteria as it gets people to socialize.

I was also surprised by the speed with which it was rejected as i have 3 other nominations “in queue”.

thanks in advance for your (hopefully constructive) opinions

Hiya @9MST

The Criteria For Wayfarer can be quite strict and mostly it requires “Unique” places, however there are some exceptions.

Now when you need to appeal a decision like this you have to show us a copy of the rejection email as mostly there is certain keywords in the email on how it was rejected.

If it was “Wayfarer Criteria” then it’s most likely our friendly A.I “Emily” (long story but if you search her name there will be posts to read about her)

However…from my point of view,I would view this as a “Generic Business” based on the photo, while the description mentions that it’s both a “Community Center” and also a place for “Refugees” this would also jump out to me as a :rotating_light: Red Flag :rotating_light: as a “Sensitive Location” and you wouldn’t want gamers hanging around where people are being protected and looked after.

If it was a general “Community Center” that helps the community to “socialize and get together” for things such as Day Trips or an Internal Cafe then it may pass fine.

I could go on but I would personally forget this one as a Wayspot however I’m only one voice on here and there are many more that will most likely have more to add or agree/disagree with me.

Try to look for things that are unique such as a monument or sculpture, trail markers while exploring a hiking route etc…once you start looking around your mind will explode with ideas and you will understand the Criteria Clarification Collection a bit better.

Welcome. The eligibility criteria for a nomination are, is the point of interest a great place to exercise, a great place to explore, or a great place to be social with others.

While a community center can be a great place to socialize you need to make it clear how it meets the criteria. In this case, your photo was probably a problem if the top one is your main photo. The point of focus isn’t very clear and the reflection makes it difficult to see well.

If you have more information on the site, we can offer more help.

Hey @phantomr1982, @Leedle95

thx for taking your time to reply.

I understand from both of you that the photo could be a problem, but unfortunately I had to take it this way because otherwise the nomination would have been rejected because license plates would have been legible in the reflection of the window.

In the meantime I have also took the time to read on the forum and I also suspect that the rejection was based on AI by “the team” mentioned in the email.

ps maybe I should have explained the “refugees” part more: the top floor is currently used for temporary shelter for Ukrainian refugees

Niantic uses an ML (machine learning ai) model as described above. If you really cannot get a better photo to try again in a new nomination, and you believe that this is an eligible nomination, then you can appeal it to Niantic. You get 2 appeals, and each has a 20 day timer before it resets and you can use it again. Since the ai “learns,” it is important to appeal when it is rejecting something.

When you appeal, you can include more information and it will be sent to the human team to review.

I want to be clear that I am not saying the appeals team will definitely accept this, but emphasize that you are submitting the community center and provide any links that you can that will prove it is what you say it is.

I think a better picture when there is less chance of reflection.
This is a bit extreme but try to close crop on the name.

This looks very different as it is filled with the distinctive part, the name.
But there is also less “ordinary” in there.

@cyndiepooh @elijustrying

Thank you for your advice.

Unfortunately I was unable to crop the photo (something wrong with the privacy settings) and therefore had to use the photo directly from the camera. Normally I would also submit the photo like @Elijustrying sugested, only with the symbol of Herent perhaps added as an extra for eligebillety reason.

in the meantime I have filed an appeal so “fingers crossed”.

What I am currently wondering is whether I can submit this POI again for nomination, should the appeal be rejected, so that this may end up with the “community”?

you have to crop the photo before you begin the nomination. then choose “existing” photo when you make it. hope that the appeal goes through.

the appeal will even tell you that you can resubmit the nomination if they have misjudged something.

Edit: This is an older one where they said this. This one did eventually get approved. Took five submissions and two appeals

The current wording is something like this, but still says you can resubmit

I haven’t tried this one again though.

I know I have to crop before I make the nomination
but I’m not allowed to use these photo’s due privacy settings and for some reason I can’t allow access

Hoi @M1rl33n4321,
