This system is flawed, submissions that are similar to submissions in other areas that were approved for some reason are dissaproved in my area. For example I submitted Bike storage racks around my park, these same type of bike racks are approved in other cities and locations but dissaproved in mine. I cant appeal them because im constantly appealing and getting decisons over turned that I dont have appeals left. Make it make sense please.
Hello and welcome to the forum @itsmefreddy
Unfortunately you cannot always go by what has been accepted other places. In this instance I am having trouble understanding how a bike storage rack meets the eligibility requirements of being a Great place to socialize, exercise, or explore.
Your local park should have plenty of other things that do meet these eligibility requirements like sports courts/fields, pools, etc…
Have these been nominated yet?
What is already in the game should never be used as confirmation as them being eligible.
- Criteria changes.
- Some ineligible nominations got in when they shouldn’t.
Your example of bike racks do not fit one of the main criteria of…
- Socialize
- Exercise
- Explore
The racks are places you leave the bikes so the exercise criteria has ended.
A common phrase in the UK is “behind the bike sheds” which could be classed as exercise but is a different thing altogether. ![]()
First off… Welcome to the community!
Secondly, if you are new here and haven’t done a lot of scrolling through other topics. You may not have seen the common disclaimer. “Just because it’s on the map, doesn’t mean it meets modern day criteria.”
Some POI’s were grandfathered in from previous criteria when it changed and remained on the map.
The best thing to do and my advise would be, is to look at the current criteria. Then if you think you have a question ask here and like 15-25 people will attempt to help you.
You get 2 appeals every 15 days.
Please keep this in mind when nominating Wayspots:
A nomination should meet at least one of these to be eligible:
- A great place for exploration
- Culturally significant: historic plaques, statues, public art
- Unique local spots: community centers, libraries, museums
- Visually interesting or educational
- A great place for exercise
- Encourages movement and physical activity
- Parks, public trails, outdoor gyms, athletic fields
- A great place to be social
- Fosters social interaction or gatherings
- Public gathering spaces, popular local spots, places with group seating or games
Its literally promotes exercise, promotes exploration and promotes socializing. Many trainers come to events on their electric scooters and bikes.
Can you post your nomination here?

But the racks are for after you have exercised, after you have explored and you shouldn’t be hanging round the racks socialising…
It’s a place to store exercise equipment. While a bike rack may make it easier to ride a bike to the park, the bike rack is not a place to exercise. Now I have seen some unique bike racks that I might consider a place to explore in that they are artistically designed.
Under the criteria tab it specifically says encourages exercise, if a bike rack being there encourages people to ride their bike isnt that meeting the criteria of encouraging exercise? Same with being social it says brings us together to experience something local or culturally, we are coming together at a regional park, we are experiencing something as a group.
We have had discussions on bike racks in the past. Refer to this thread:
A Unique Bike Rack consider as Generic Bike Rack? - Nomination Support - Niantic Wayfarer Community
Under the critera tab it states that it must encourage exercise. A bike rack being available to people who exercise via a bike would be encouraging exercise would it not?

I ride my bike to the park all the time. There are no bike racks in the park. If I feel that I have to lock my bike, I use a lamppost or a tree. I think that we would agree that they are not eligible. We need to be talking about a specific nomination. As @BlameJamal said, please post the nomination.
That would make sense to be rejected because its not specifically meant for bikes, but one would feel more inclined to exercise around the park if they knew they had a secure storage space.
I could cycle to my mates and store the bike in his shed, don’t think that nomination is going to be accepted.
Supermarkets tend to have bike racks, all supermarkets should be eligible?
The nomination should be primarily for that reason, bike racks are primarily for before or after exercising not as part of it.
I understand but the criteria specifically states it encourages exercise, bike racks giving someone a place to properly secure their bikes encourages exercise.
The criteria also says it has to be a great place for exercise.
A bike rack isn’t great, it’s just a place to put your bike. Nothing noteworthy or great about it.
So the verbiage is wrong then because when it explains it in detail it specifically says encourages, im not arguing with anybody here just trying to grasp the wordage.
The problem with your argument is it would open every object as a nomination, 1 I have used before is a dog poo bin, encourage socialising as you chat to other dog owners?
I often walk for exercise which the pavement (sidewalk) encourages this as it guides me on where to go.
You name any object and it could be shoehorned in to 1 of the criteria.
