I did not say “irrational,” just “intersting” and I asked for clarification from the Wayfarer support team for their definition to avoid further speculation.
But to explain what I also said, these games are defined by Niantic as being “AR gaming.” While a traditional definition does include the 3d superimposition onto the real world, just interacting in game with the real world thru phone gaming is a type of AR gaming. I don’t partake in any of the scanning features and don’t use it for buddy photos, but my actions in game are still considered AR.
Think about the weather in PoGo; it’s based (most times) on what the real world weather currently is, and boosts the spawning of certain types of Pokémon. That’s a form of AR, as real world info is being used to create a digital environment and play experience.
I even found this quote when searching for AR that brings up PoGo as an example:
Augmented reality and virtual reality are often confused—augmented reality uses the existing real-world environment and puts virtual information—or even a virtual world—on top of it to enhance the experience. For example, think of Pokémon Go, where users are searching in their real-life neighborhoods for animated characters that pop up on their phone or tablet.
I will note that decisions on removal requests seem to be a little faster now. Before this change, I did submit 2 removal requests last week, one on private property, the other permanently removed but was on a middle school before it was torn down in 2020. I even took photos just in case I would need to appeal.
Well, no need to appeal either, as both reports were accepted, and both Wayspots have been removed. There were reported on Aug 14th, and were accepted on Aug 19th. My last few before these took about a week and a half to 3 weeks to get a response back.
I mentioned Dynamax and Gigantimax, which is coming next season, in PoGo. The data miners aren’t quite sure how it’ll work yet, and there hasn’t been many details provided. It is possible that there may be new game play locations just for Dyanmax/Gigantimax, but again, not confirmed. PoGo will most likely provide more closer to Sept 3rd, when the next season starts.
I don’t think that Dynamax/Gigantamax will need an AR experience thing, but maybe they will?
I do remember hearing (unsubstantiated) rumours about an AR thing to do a PokéStops that was meant to kick in at last years GO Fest but got delayed, so I think it will be a different thing to Dynamax/Gigantamax.
I’m not sure this makes sense at all actually, we would have perfectly safe access to a firehouse but it still blocks emergency services.
I had an object removed because it was right beside the exit for a firehouse. It had safe access, but still had the potential to block firetrucks on their way to an emergency.
First responders keep our communities safe, so choosing Unsafe Access and leaving a comment that it’s at a fire/police/EMS station and could obstruct makes the most sense to me.
Possibly, but what if it’s a picnic area or swimming pool open to those that live/work at the building, or are staying there on vacation? Someone could still scan it from the story it’s on.
I come from a big city and I’ve seen poi’s of statues(like gargoyles) or symbols on 10 story buildings that are part of the facade - no way someone will lurch out from their window (some without fire escapes) to do an AR
