Reviewing...Ten characters title stupidity

I’ve found over the last 6-12 months that reviewing has become less enjoyable than having your eyeballs removed with a toothpick.

It was never an enjoyable experience but previously I could do 50+ without much effort now I do 5 and I honestly can’t be a*sed.

Maybe it’s the new reviewing system?

Maybe there’s a lot less interesting things to review. I love trails and footpaths but trail markers reviews are dull.

Maybe I’m being selfish and the quick turnaround on submissions by Emily has made the incentives for reviewing pointless?

I will agree with you that incentives for reviewing need a rework and have for some time.

Wayfarer/Recon badges have been at the highest level for some time for me.

As for Upgrades, they’re less essential now that the ML system takes many nominations, and even then I don’t personally have the wait I once did with non-ML-reviewed nominations either.

I still enjoy getting the Portal Key and the 1,000 AP for when a new Portal goes live as well as the 500 AP for new photos as I enjoy updating the photos of older Wayspots.

What would you propose to re-incentivise people and change it?

I’ve mentioned before that it could be gamified with getting badges for reviewing certain nominations much like Swarm, but instead of badges for check ins, its badges within your Wayfarer profile for reviewing certain things.

It could also change so that you earn a “Wayfarer Point” instead of an Upgrade which you can still exchange for an Upgrade, or potentially (depending on agreement from the game teams) Wayfarer themed gear for your avatar in Pokémon GO/Ingress.

I feel the same, I haven’t properly reviewed for a long time.
The new system feels clunky and despite my best efforts I just don’t like it at all.
The rewards seem lacklustre, I never really needed upgrades and need them even less now.
The ML system takes a lot of the interesting or low-hanging submissions before they get to reviewers so we only see the ones it can’t decide on.
It’s increasingly boring, frustrating with no real reward or enough incentive these days.
It would be nice if they implemented some of the very many fantastic suggestions people have made to improve things, maybe one day we can dream.

I don’t know what other people want.

For me in game reward are a bit meaningless

Items

I’m not that fussed about my Wayfarer profile or having badges on it.

Extra submissions would be handy for me but I’m not sure that would apply to the vast majority of users.

I guess in game avatar items would be nice but given that Casey or Giffard maybe mentioned they were looking into it about 3 years ago then nothing I don’t think it will happen.

They could give me a point for every review when I reach 1,000 I could exchange them for GBL working properly.

Just kidding that last one will never happen.

Reviewing is such a slog since the new review flow that I stopped reviewing for a while. And then so much stuff was getting in that should not have been accepted that I started reviewing again.

I think the single thing that would make reviewing less tedious for me is to add back in the “Doesn’t meet criteria” rejection reason. ML can reject for “Wayfarer criteria” so why can’t we?

I like the idea of earning points. I know a lot of explorers complain about not having enough nominations, so they would appreciate being able to exchange points for more submissions. But for me, I am sure my points would pile up just like my upgrades and nominations available have.

I don’t really care about the map. I know sacrilege!

I enjoy finding things to submit and finding out about things others have submitted but
I’ve seen enough of how Niantic treat it to not be that bothered. When I’m reviewing to help it’s for other players and their submissions not for the integrity of the map.

I hate my avatar in Pokemon Go since they changed them. Previously, I would have loved this idea. But now I don’t want to look at it.

Not sure how you would add gear to an ingress avatar?

The reason it bothers me so much is that people submit what they see. So live coal means more coal submitted. By rejecting stuff that should not go live, I am helping people to make better submissions that help their game. It is about the players and not the map.

I’ll follow your lead when Niantic follow your lead.

How long have you got?

I think rather than gear for Ingress it would be separate avatars like this one.

Differently coloured Wayfarer pins and then one that is just the letters OPR as an avatar for a throwback.

This is a large part of it for many, if Nianitic don’t care about accuracy and consistency in curating their map, why should we? @cyndiepooh I admire your kindness and dedication doing this for the community, I used to love improving things for others but it’s just made so hard to do effectively.

I’d love to see some sort of currency that could be earned in various ways, tied into Wayfarer and the various games that could then be saved and spent on whatever is desired. 100 points for an incubator/capsule/upgrade/appeal etc. I’d also like to see real world rewards, badges, t-shirt etc, I’d certainly be more motivated to work toward something tangible like that.

I feel like we have had these discussions all before but the team doesn’t really give us any feedback so it seems like they just aren’t interested or listening to the community. So much ignored potential.

To be honest, i started reviewing to learn and get better in nominating, but very quickly it became a boring chore, that I kept doing out if courtesy and for my Pokémon wayfarer badge.

The challenge was really fun though, until my rating dropped to the bottom of the Mariana trench, and I really liked the rewards, which would make me do it all over again. You can never have too many incubators in Pokémon, Rennie raid passes would be even better.

But the rewards for regular reviewing are basically not worth the bother. Upgrades I consider unusable and unwanted; they just get your nominations denied within the blink of an eye. So I prefer not to use them. Earning extra AirAsia would be SO much more useful, it would actually make it worth reviewing more.

So, I do a handful of reviews every now and then, but there is basically nothing in it for me, so I never feel the urge to log in. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

Oi, get in the queue, raids have been broken for far longer than GBL  Introduced broken in summer of 2017, never fixed :sweat_smile::rofl:

Agree that this is so needed. I have mentioned several times that I just simply dont see a way to reject inoffensive rubbish  and the advice is to lie and say its not distinct or permanent, when it is. Just give us an option that says doesn’t meet critieria, or confirm if the 3 questions at the end will reject with 3 nos. I do not understand why they dont do this

Definitely but… You can do raids with your eyes shut and they don’t really need any knowledge or skill :upside_down_face:

… my main interest in this game is challenge raiding. I compete at it. Currently arranging a raid draft competition for a Pokemon Go Olympics! The reason I wayfarer is to make new stops and gyms so I can compete with players in big cities. With the ML I now dont mind submitting stuff for lightship though, or adding new pictures.

So many players who were extremely skilled raiders have quit the game simply because raids are a broken mess and Niantic do not fix them.

There’s no fun to raiding without loking at the screen. Doing an entire t3, mega, or even t5 with a single pokemon though, dodging all the moves, managing the boss’s energy to force it to be passive, knowing move cooldowns and using the knowldge to squeeze in additional moves before the dodge, theres a whole world of technical skill that Niantic don’t care about and refuse to help us actually enjoy raiding by fixing the game

Getting all your hours of tries thrown back in your face at the last minute due to the game not knowing what its doing is heartbreaking and extremely rage inducing. One time I spent 5 hours on the same raid! Can you imagine?

I showed a clip of one of my raids to a big group of staff at the support tent at a safari zone once, they were utterly horrified, and said they were aware of one of the issues but not the other (did you know raid bosses can regain health? Yep. Niantic didnt know ). They got me to send a bunch of video in and promised to look into it. Never did. The guy probably got sacked for admitting the game is broken instead
