oh so @P1dg3ySlayer was right and you do have to log in to the wayfarer site! ty
It would make sense for one to log in to the site in order for the script to kick the hold option on the nomination as Niantic would not know that #hold is to stop the nomination from going through without the 3rd-party script kicking in.
Nvl can tell you that nothing about scripts makes sense to me lol. I think it is all magic.
Maybe a button “go to” when the successful submitted screen is showing
That would assume that the submitter wants to go to the nomination page after they submitted their nomination instead of continuing with the game they are playing or going about their business. I get where you are coming from, but wouldn’t appeal to me personally.
That’s a cheap solution
The issue I run into is that there is a delay between when the upload completes and when it’s visible on your contributions page. I did load the site immediately after the upload completed, because I wanted to put it on hold, but it wasn’t immediately there, so I would need to wait for it to show up AND catch it in queue to put it on hold. I didn’t refresh the page in the right window, so I missed my chance.
If the nomination hadn’t been abandoned in upload later for a day or few, the grace period would have been long enough, so alternatively, if the grace period started when a nomination is uploaded instead of when it’s created, I would have had sufficient time to catch it in queue.
As this would require changes in-game to the nomination process, I don’t actually believe it would be cheaper or easier than a solution which the wayfarer team could implement without dependencies on other teams’ roadmaps.
Sounds also cheap
In this threat it was also discussed. I didn’t re-read, so idk if there’s another point of view inside:
lol
Same basis, but without a proposed solution. What my post is doing is proposing a solution to the problem.
I didn’t realise it was considered already… ooops…
That’s the same article! Now I’m salty and out my friend
Apparently it wasn’t considered though and even I forgot I had ever said that until I followed the link @AliceWonder1511 gave
Sorry, poor choice of words… considered as in already talked about on here previously.
Than I’m back
When I find something in the wild to submit, I say “upload later” and wait until I’m home (done gaming) so I can Google it to write the text. Often I’ll find something interesting about that park, statue, plaque, etc.
But it has risks.
(1) Niantic has lost nominations many times thru the years (never making it to the contribution page), and could again.
(2) If a nomination is only on your phone, and your phone is lost or broken, it’s gone.
(3) If you hold it too long, it can go straight to voting before you can edit.
Maybe I could interrupt playing, to set an alarm to remind myself to upload. But wow - how many external tools should we have to use!
Strictly speaking, the Wayfarer tools / scripts are supported by Niantic and we use them at our own risks, but they are quite useful nevertheless. (Sorry if I am stepping on toes here).
You don’t need to use the scripts, if you know what you are doing, swollowed the Wayfarer Bible, can cite chapter and verse, etc. and are at expert level of all things wayfarer (And I say that not with any grudge or malice, if any Niantic staff are watching).
I have lost submissions before with the upgrade later, but the later versions of the Pokemon Go app has got better and haven’t lost any over the past few weeks (as far as I know). But I don’t want to be dependant on the upgrade later option unless I am in a low signal area… but that’s just me.
Lol I just meant that after using “update later”, you can (stop playing and) open your phone’s clock, and set an alarm for 7pm when you’ll be home to upload and put it on hold.
But it’s ridiculous to have to rely on so many steps and external products. Auto hold should be an option within Wayfarer.
