Not long ago (3-4 months ago), a PokéStop in my city was removed for various reasons. The problem was that this PokéStop was intended for showcases. After this PokéStop was removed, no nearby PokéStop was designated to host showcases in place of the removed one. There have been discussions about powerspots sync before, but does showcase sync exist and is it planned for the near future?
There has been none in the past.
Whether it will come in the future is down to Niantic and the PoGo Team.

We have not had any reports of any new Showcases appearing.
Yeah, this is really annoying. I lost several showcase Pokestops near me as well. I guess they just can’t be bothered with updating the system.

On another note, the original release statement for Pokestop showcases stated that “showcases will take place at the same PokéStops throughout the Season, so make sure to visit that PokéStop regularly!”
Am I the only one that interpreted that as “showcase Pokestops were planned to change every time there’s a new season”? So they’d move once every three months?
Everyone I knew thought they were going to rotate in the beginning.
I hate this situation. If I know something is a Showcase stop, I won’t report it. Good thing I mainly use the same six Showcase stops and know they are all legit.

This was an issue in my town as well. We had a few showcase stops removed in close proximity to a military base. They got added back, but the showcases were never recovered.

Similar thing happened in the city center of Rovaniemi Finland. City center of million tourists per year doesnt have a showcase since multiple POI that used to be.showcases were removed. Even if some were restored, the showcases were lost forever… There really should be a system that if showcase POI is removed, another will spawn in its cell.
