Hey guys, I know this is a rather silly question but I don’t seem to be able to find an answer anywhere.
Is there a way of knowing if a waypoint will appear in Pokémon Go but looking at it on the Lightship map? Or is the only way going there and looking in-game?
Hello,
No, there isn’t a way to tell from the Lightship map if a Wayspot will appear in PoGo. PoGo uses S2 cells for their density rules, and more can be found about how that works here:
There are some third-party sites out there that show the cells. Ingress players are ususally able to see the cells better in that game, and may be able to tell if a Wayspot may show in PoGo or not. PoGo does not show S2 cells in-game.
Just to correct on this slightly. Ingress players can’t see cells in the Ingress game at all. They can see them with some third party plug ins to the Intel Map, which is located here and shows all Portals.
Just so nobody downloads Ingress and expects to be able to see cells right away.
If you have had the acceptance email and are wondering if your submission has become an on board in game stop/gym:
You can check through campfire rather than travelling physically to the location
That only works for gyms, and only if the gym has hosted a raid. But I have definitely used this to figure out which became a gym when I have had a triggering Wayspot accepted!
Yes … this is true. You can also use campfire to ask others who live close by if new points have appeared on board.
At least here you can — as it has gathered quite a lot of users.
It would be much better customer service if a follow up email was generated to actually tell you it was used in (name of) game(s) or – for now is just in the system.
Might be something that could be suggested to the company…
Haha, well scoring cells yes.
I suspect this isn’t the one the poster was after though.
The emails already note that not all approved Wayspots will be in all of the Niantic games, but it they do show up, it can take up to 48 hours. I don’t think a follow-up email is needed if a Wayspot ends up in a game or not.
Also, some Wayspots that aren’t in PoGo as stops/gyms are being used as Power Spots at times.
Monster Hunter players can see the cells.
Thanks for your reply.
I understand that you do not require a follow up email to find out if your accepted nomination has actually appeared in any games.
On the other hand – other nominators would like to know if their efforts have ended up in a game or not. It’s not going to cost anything (once programmed) for an email to be generated after 48 hours with a notification.
From Pogo — players are selecting “Pokestop Contribution” … and tapping “New Pokestop”.
They then receive an email confirming that their contribution has been received and this email refers them to this web site.
They then find out – that in fact — they have not nominated a pokestop but actually a wayspot.
I consider that this experience can be improved. So many people – including myself – come to these forums and ask the same questions.
A better experience may encourage more players to get involved in reviewing and contributing potential wayspots.
Maybe there could be an opt out of notifications choice.
What do you think?
It’s really only new Wayfarers asking, not those of us doing this on a regular basis. The first time a Wayspot that I got approved didn’t show up in PoGo, I figured it was the density rules, so I didn’t bother asking. It does now get used as a Power Spot from time to time.
People just don’t care to read the full email, or even do their own research into Wayfarer. It’s these users that keep asking, and once informed, typically don’t ask again.
Also, I don’t think people want too many emails, and there’snoopt out options. Some people don’t even check their emails because they get so much junk mail, or they just don’t use email. I know people that don’t even check their email anymore because they’re signed up for too many promotional emails and could care less about unsubscribing, or thinks opting out of all of them takes too long.
What really needs to change is PoGo’s wording when nominating to reflect you are nominating a Wayspot, not a PoGo stop/gym.
i agree change is required so as to create a better experience.
Encouraging new players to engage will help reduce the back log. As you mentioned that requires accurate communication.
Yes, and the best is to have PoGo change their wording instead of having Wayfarer change theirs. So I don’t see additional emails as a solution; I see rewording in PoGo as the solution.
I used to work in online customer service, and so many people don’t know how to unsubscribe to emails, so they contact the company, even call if they can. It’s a hassle for some.
Also, with text being the more primary form of text-based communications these days, that’s another reason not to add more emails.
