Special road sign nomination question

Hello fellow Wayfarers,

I have a quick question about a nomination before I actually submit it.
I would like to get a second opinion if you think this sign would be eligible for nomination.

Translated the sign says ‘Watch out! Rock throwing magpies, Park at your own risk’.
This sign is only present in this street and mold growing on the sign does signify that the sign has been here for a very long time (one can say it’s permanent) and signifies that the area has rock throwing magpies.

Personally, I think the sign is special and I have never seen a sign about rock throwing magpies anywhere else (as far as I know). Please let me know what you guys think.

Unless there is a history behind this sign being put up that I don’t see here, I would consider this just a warning sign, and not a great place to exercise, explore, or be social.

It’s still just a generic street sign. You don’t go to it to socialise, you don’t go to it to exercise, and it’s not a great place to explore.

Hello and Welcome,

I’m going to tag @iFrankmans for his view

not a great place to explore… especially if birds are going to throw rocks at you

Although this is ringing a bell at the back of my memory somewhere

There is a history to it. In short, locals were complaining that the magpies were throwing rocks, the municipality tried to scare the birds away but that the problem persisted. Eventually, the magpie’s nests were tried to be relocated but the birds kept coming back still and the municipality settled for placing signs warning for rock-throwing magpies.

But I do see your point. It’s an unusual sign on the other hand so hence me asking.

It amazes me how I never looked at it that way.

But preferences differ and maybe some people want to experience what it feels like to get rocks pelted to you by magpies

i might accept that with the story with evidence to prove it. would be a hard nomination.

I do agree it’s a hard nomination.
The evidence is what I struggle with the most on this one. The signs were placed many years ago and it was mostly a local matter. The story was written in a local bulletin but it was never big news.

There are a few articles online (like a blog) that mention the signs but nothing from official channels.

I agree that everything has to be top notch for it to have any chance. There is also nothing to make it stand out from regular street signs. Maybe if the blog is shared better support can be provided.

I never know magpies can throw rock lol. So i assume the magpies doesnt like the car ah

This is the article in question. I would appreciate any view on it.

Oh, it’s not even a specific car they target. They throw rocks at anything that exists. You just have to hope it’s not you or your car. The magpies do have favourite rocks, I believe white pebbles, to throw, the sadists. Also, not only magpies can throw rocks but some birds like crows can also throw rocks to blow off some steam or worse - for fun.

Thanks for sharing. It is not a place I would take a detour for on my walk so I would not consider it to be a GREAT location for exploring. But nevertheless you could try with a very good title and description, including a motivation in the supporting text with the provided link. But chances are slim.

Thanks for everyone’s take, I appreciate them all. Considering everything, I don’t think it’s going to be worth the hassle to nominate this, since I don’t think I can make a strong case for it.
