Sports center clubhouse rejected as "generic business"?

Wayspot Submission for Glenbrooke Sports Hut

Description
Equipment and tournament board for Glenbrooke’s shuffleboard, horseshoes, basketball, and volleyball area

Supplemental Information
Station for club staff to loan out equipment, and to keep track of league standings and tournament brackets for the members

Rejection Criteria
Generic Business
Various rejection criteria

The clubhouse (“hut”) at an outdoor sports club was rejected and the appeal was also rejected. I would like some help figuring out why it was rejected so it can be resubmitted with a better chance for approval.

Glenbrooke is a sports club, and is listed on Google Maps as “Glenbrooke Outdoor Sports Center.” The title on Google Maps is partially covered by the waypoint pin, so it is very clearly at the sports club. Sports and recreation areas are a specified Wayfarer category as “a great place for exercise and socialization.” The club has two waypoints at the front of the club–the entrance and the soccer field–so there is precedent for approved waypoints at the club (the soccer field point should be adjusted, but that’s another post).

The rear sports fields include a multi-use basketball / pickleball / youth tennis court, a volleyball court, horseshoes pits, and shuffleboard court, which are all very close together. They probably would not be accepted individually because they are so close together.
Clarification for sports fields also says:

With that in mind, I nominated the clubhouse because it is the hub of activity for the sports fields on that side of the club. The clubhouse is where staff and participants gather for organizing games and tournaments, where seasonal league info and standings are posted, and where participants can borrow sports equipment owned by the club. The clubhouse on its own should stand as an acceptable waypoint

[The larger building next to the pool has the locker rooms, bathrooms, lifeguard office, and main office–not waypoint worthy, IMHO.]

Rejection Criteria
Generic Business
-How is an outdoor sports club considered a “generic business”?
Various rejection criteria
-This is very vague

The Google Maps Roads inset shows there is a structure very near where the pin was placed. As is visible in the photos, the clubhouse is surrounded by trees, which makes it difficult to see the exact location in Google Maps Satellite when submitting.
The pin will be closer to actual location when resubmitted. However, the short distance from the true location should not be a rejection factor if the pin is correctable in Wayfarer review.

To me, this is a perfect example of a waypoint that meets criteria to be accepted, but something must be missing.
What criteria are not met?
Or what disqualifying factors are present?

This appears to be a storage shed for athletic equipment, which usually don’t meet criteria. It’s not really a place to be social or to explore, and people don’t actually exercise there, just get equipment to exercise. So, with that said, I do agree with the rejection.

Instead of choosing a thumbs down on Permanent and Distinct, I believe some choose to thumbs down on Appropriate and choose Generic business, as they see this as being generic. I see it as not being distinct, as it’s not a generic business, nor is it a business whatsoever.

Looking at this location, I see that the pool, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, and the pickleball/tennis courts north of the soccer field don’t have Wayspots yet, and they are eligible. There also looks to be a separate kiddie pool to the east of the main pool, and that may be eligible as well. All of these are great places to get some exercise, as well as socialize with others while enjoying the sports.

Lastly, for the soccer field location, it is in the middle of the field, and that’s not the best place for it. It is over 10 meters from the sidelines, which would be a better location, and you can request a location edit via help chat on the Wayfarer website.

I think the bit about league standings and tournament brackets would be info to include in the description, not just the supporting info.

If it were just a shed, I totally agree that it wouldn’t be waypoint-worthy.

Here’s another picture that shows the clubhouse from the multi-court down the hill. This angle is easier to see that it’s larger than a shed, has a railed front porch, and has a picnic table in front. The nomination photo shows the side picnic tables. Satellite view also kinda shows the side picnic tables. It is definitely the most popular spot for people to hang out between games as the central location among the courts. I had to wait to take the picture until people cleared out at closing time haha.

I don’t think the individual courts and fields would be accepted individually so close together, so that’s why I submitted the clubhouse. And if the clubhouse is where most people are hanging out between physical games, that’s where they’re most likely have their phone out to take in-game actions.
Individual nominations are worth a try, though. The multi-court was submitted today and shows Accepted already, but doesn’t appear in-game yet.

The pickleball courts by the soccer field are torn up (satellite photo must be from spring). Should be ready for the fall, so I’ll try submitting then.

Ticket submitted to move the soccer field waypoint to the fence gate. Thank you for pointing me to where to submit that!

Thank you for the advice! I’ll try that next time

I’ve actually nominated several POIs next to one another at places like this, and yes, the individual courts all count as one POI, so they are eligible on their own. You have several great options in that screenshot, all better than the shed. Even with the tourney/league info, it’ll still be a hard sell.

I’ve gotten 4 volleyball courts right next to each other accepted. Each is an individual sports court, used separately.

You’re doing a much better job selling this here than you did in your nomination.

Don’t forget the pool.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I know of several sports complexes with 4-5 fields of some sort next to each other, all with Wayspots. Some complexes have even more; there’s a softball complex in my city that has around 20 fields, divided into 4 sections, and all 20 fields have Wayspots.
