Hi everyone,
Recently, I’ve noticed some strange PokéStops popping up around my area. They often have names like “[Street 1] & [Street 2]” but are located in the middle of nowhere, with no visible landmarks or points of interest nearby.
I suspect these might be generated by bots, but I’m not sure. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Thanks for any insight!
No, that’s Niantic’s own doing.
Today in my town (Fondettes in France), around 10 new pokestops arose. They all named «Steet corner (+names of the streets). No image.
Do you know if it’s a bug ? Do you have any information on this subject ?

It’s meant to be a trial for “Wayspot Deserts” but lots are asking the same question.
Please read the link posted above, some of us are trying to create a list of preference if they insist on going forward with this…

This question is probably best answered by NianticAaron’s response.
Our current Wayfarer system relies on user-submitted points of interest once a user reaches eligibility. This can be a challenge for players in areas with very few PokéStops and Gyms. As an addition to our current system and to empower these Trainers, we’re introducing Niantic-generated PokéStops in those areas to help them level up faster, become Wayfarer eligible sooner, and start nominating even more locations in their area for an even richer game experience!
This is not to be viewed as a change in Wayspot criteria or guidelines.
