Yes this sort of thing has become very popular in the U.K. as a summer activity.
They are often removed and then auctioned for charity and then placed in final location.
That final location could be somewhere that is ineligible and quite distant from when it was first seen.
Indeed yes, often local shops or restaurants, things like that. We have had them over the past few summers in Worcester and I’ve seen in other cities too.
The frustration is that it should not have ever been accepted, I have scanned the absent space with Ingress portal scanner, and have reported it, yet it lives despite 3 gates that should have had it removed by now. This is my first reporting (though there was another temporary sign I reported right next to it now also absent) and unsure of next steps, other than to just live with it.
