That's a Wrap! - The Global Wayfarer Review Challenge is ending ahead of schedule

Re-run event

You provided feedback, you got some reasonable responses, and you don’t want to accept it. I’m not trying to be better than anyone.

Hey guys,

Come over my place for a party

Oh wait, now your here you have to leave by 5pm, ‘That’s a Wrap’.

yeah we reached the bedrock of the discussion…

We can’t. A major piece of this event was to get the Ingress nominations out of the system before the split. Wait, I think I said that before on this topic…

Hi everyone, you’re welcome to share your thoughts about the challenge, but please avoid personal remarks. It’s easy to misread tone online. If something seems off, consider rereading before responding. And if you still feel the need to say something negative about another user, please refrain.

Let’s keep the discussion respectful. Thank you!

Finally a niantic rep, what’s the compensation to your community for this event?

The summarize button is really interesting for this topic.

It does a pretty nice job of including all the points made!

And I typed that too slow to beat the going into slow mode setting XD

The slo mode should be per user…..it should still allow new posters who arrive wanting to make their point to do so.

And yes I think the AI summaries are good.

Yep… the slow mode is per user. I can’t remember if I can hide a thread for a period time or not…

Seriously, how will niantic follow this one up?

You have a minority thanking you for clearing out their pogo stops and majority really disappointed with how this was handled.

  • poor advertisement
  • horrible connectivity during the event
  • then cutting it short which left a high player based doing reviews for your infrastructure being shunted out of rewards

How will this be managed now, otherwise there won’t be a next time for so many. Don’t destroy your player base.

The lag was unappealing this was by far the worst challenge. Me and my peers were barely even to scratch 30 because of the lag. Anyway congrats to others who were successful.

Just making sure your feedback is read

I don’t know, I wouldn’t call that a fully detailed summary. It looks like it’s only the first few posts.

did you scroll down? it does update so maybe i should have screenshot what i was seeing at the time. looks different now but still good to me:

The Global Wayfarer Review Challenge ended early due to an unexpectedly low submission backlog. NianticTintino announced the challenge’s conclusion on April 22, 2025, at 5:00 PM PDT, citing decreased submissions and increased lag. Individual tier rewards were adjusted (see here), and all rewards will be distributed by April 30, 2025.

The early closure sparked mixed reactions. Some, like vartanm, expressed frustration with the lag and limited reviews, while others, like Ferrothorn, wished for more advance notice. smatz0rZ pointed out the difficulty of achieving even lowered review targets given the lag. Some users questioned the low number of nominations given the challenge, like crazyren123, while others like Falenone suggested extending the challenge and expanding the review area. mikie questioned why such challenges aren’t regularly implemented. Concerns were also raised about some users accumulating excessive reviews, like Ferrothorn suggested individual cut-offs.

Several users expressed disappointment about missing rewards due to the unexpected closure (Musik, Stultusz, z0vian). Musik suggested prioritizing reviewers who haven’t reached the goals over those who exceeded them. Others like wamdueproject felt the short notice was disrespectful to the community’s efforts. sp00nbang documented extensive errors and location changes while Netwalker and WisePokken noted the difficulty of obtaining reviews even after changing locations. yuyanfeng criticized the timing of the announcement. There are discussions regarding fair compensation for participants and suggestions for improvement in future challenges (gggt377, frealafgb). cyndiepooh offered a different perspective, emphasizing that ending the challenge was the right decision given the lack of reviews. Some users like JoshiGAT0R suggest increasing the tier of rewards for participants close to the threshold due to the abrupt ending. AliceWonder1511 summarized key frustrations from the community. Many reviewers provided valuable insights into their experience by sharing detailed stats and personal anecdotes such as SpyKid128 and dot37.

oh i bet i just tagged all of those people pasting that :woman_facepalming:
i apologize

We have seen the bouncing balloon and frustrations in previous challenges and the way Niantic dealt with that was to extend the challenge to another country.

As this event was global. Where could they go?

Yes it’s annoying that they ended it early but it really is a case of damned if they don’t, damned if they do.

It’s definitely leaving out a lot of users. More than 23 people posted. 136 people have posted in this topic.

So when people say that they would have had the same result if they had continued, goal achievers who have not experienced that are not convinced. It only ignites anger.
Positive discussions will not proceed.

oh i just meant it was a good summary of all the different points made. do you feel there is any specific issue that it is leaving out? i wouldn’t expect it to list every contributor.

@CrownFeather i believe you are correct. i will cease any attempt to reassure people that they have been heard.

I wouldn’t get combatitive on this forum. It’s most likely not going to achieve a thing and may encourage defensiveness. If you truly feel wronged, just make an effort to publicize your experience outside of this forum. If I had to give an honest review of the event, it would be a 1-2 stars out of five. Unfortunately, under no circumstance was it “awesome”, it also doesn’t qualify as “mid” because that usually implies something neutrally unremarkable. To me the only saving grace of the event was that the goals were reached. Which would put it firmly in that 1.5-2/5 stars range. People outside the community deserve to know that.

Google Maps has been through this a long time ago and it’s a peek into how the long game plays out. Maintaining these large map databases takes a lot of human effort and collaboration or it’s all just going to get outdated. In all fairness there’s a limit to how much the contributors can get trampled on and the people in charge should be pretty aware of that.
