The Boston Wayfarer Queue Remains Broken

ML hasnt even been around for a year. So this sentence doesn’t make sense to me.

Niantic’s article about Machine Learning came out a year ago, but I thought we had already been seeing evidence of its handiwork for longer

The machine seems to preview nominations, so if it doesn’t accept or reject immediately there is about zero chance that you’ll get an AI decision. Prior to ML’s era, the holy grail was a ‘team’ decision that filled a similar role: grabbing new stuff and bypassing the need to distill a community consensus.

Sorry I did not pull up multiple calendars before making my comment. @smantz0rZ did supply a detailed analysis of Boston stats and resolution-times for several explorers in the community. Some folks here called his group quitters for growing weary of reviewing everything from Texas, Florida, and California while scarcely seeing anything local.

These are nominations that have been upgraded. This happens to all locations. Boston does not have as many active reviewers as some of the other places you mentioned. Less reviewers > less agreements > less upgrades > upgraded nominations from other places get in the queue. Having said that, it’s not possible that you do not get local submissions to review.

I’m going to change my bonus location to Metro Boston. Anyone else want to join me and help those folks out?

This certainly has been my experience. Boston has an amazing PoGo community: warm, welcoming, and extremally positive. But when I mention Wayfarer, I get nothing but groans and eyerolls. For whatever reason, Boston PoGo players seem to have had consistently bad experiences.

As I mentioned before, I’m relatively new to Wayfarer, but I’ll share a few thoughts on how to turn this around:

  • Create an SLA for POI submissions (e.g., two weeks). If a submission has been in voting for longer than that, automatically submit it to a larger voting pool. Essentially, auto-upgrade submissions that aren’t getting resolved in a timely fashion by the local community.
  • Provide feedback to users whose votes are overturned on appeal. Our voting community seems to really love to reject things, including things that clearly and unambiguously meet the criteria and criteria clarifications. I routinely need to appeal my submissions to get them approved. It would be great for the people who voted to get feedback that they were overruled. Not a “warning” or any type of punishment, just feedback that they’re vote was too negative (or positive) in that case. Over time, this might help change behavior.
  • If Boston ever gets a local Niantic event, it would be great to have the Wayfarer team here to partner with the local community to “relaunch” Wayfarer and try to change perception. Our CAs and Pogo community are terrific, there must be a way to bring that Wayfarer.

We cannot do that. It would be unfair for other locations.

That’s not very feasible as well. We have different checks to be able to identify people who do not follow criteria and share feedback if needed.

That’s something we can do. I’ll share it with the team.

We are willing to reset the bonus locations of anyone who choses to help.

Having received an “educational email” for a situation in which my review was actually correct, and having seen appeal decisions overturned after being posted here, I find the idea of the appeals team decisions being used to establish criteria rather scary. I appreciate wanting to educate reviewers, though.

Is there a specific area for this black hole? I don’t want to reset my bonus to Boston and then find out that I missed the target area.

Wow, this is very generous! Thank you @NianticAaron. I’m looking forward to reviewing later tonight! #redsox #celtics #bruins #stillhatethepatriots

See you in the Boston Wayfarer queues :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To clarify, I actually suggest doing this for all locations… essentially help ensure that everyone gets a similar resolution time regardless of where they live. My thought is to put everyone on a similar playing field, not to give special treatment to any specific location.

Many thanks for your other responses and continued engagement on this topic!

Will we get any Tea Party if we change our Bonus Location to Boston? Asking for a friend.

I personally make my submissions in the Greater Boston area, including Arlington, Billerica, and Wellfleet. It’s my understanding that setting a location in Boston covers the entire Greater Boston area, but I don’t know that for certain. I attend Pogo community events in Boston, Malden, Hyannis, and Arlington, and have heard similar feedback in all locations. Thanks!

You definitely get free beers if you visit!

Dang… I don’t drink. :crying_cat_face:

OK… tea for you!

We do that from time to time. It’s not possible for us to commit to a time line.

I would offer to help but when I tried to do that for Morocco I saw almost no reviews for that area, and then my rating dropped (from doing UK reviews to try to find Moroccan ones)

Really nervous about doing reviews in general at the moment, but would like to help if we think there are enough reviews that Id actually see any?
