The Global Wayfarer Review Challenge has begun!

Hello Explorers,

We’re excited to kick off this very special challenge to celebrate the upcoming transition from Niantic to Scopely and Niantic Spatial! We hope that this truly global challenge will bring our community together and build stronger bonds across our diverse community of nominators and reviewers. Our community is incredibly special and we are excited to see you all continue to grow and come together to enhance Explorer, Exercise, and Social experiences for all. With this special challenge, we’re introducing exciting one-time changes—please review them below to ensure a great experience.

How to participate:

All of these settings can be found in your Wayfarer Settings tab.

Home and Bonus Location Setting: These location settings are self-chosen addresses that influence which Wayspot nominations and edits are assigned to you. You can change these at any point throughout the challenge window and will be able to reset it once more within 48 hours for the end of the challenge.

Wayfarer Challenge Setting: By default Explorers will have the Wayfarer Challenge setting turned on, but be sure to double check it is turned on before the challenge begins! You will be able to turn this setting off if you wish to take a break from the challenge. Turning it back on will automatically resume your participation in the challenge.

Note: turning the Wayfarer Challenge setting on and off does not reset your individual counter, all previous reviews are retained.

Challenge Timelines:

  • Challenge Kick-Off
    • 4/16/2025 at 12:00pm PST (7:00pm UTC)
  • Challenge Ends
    • 4/23/2025 at 12:00pm PST (7:00pm UTC)
  • Reward Distribution
    • 4/24/2025 - 4/30/2025

All rewards will expire 5/31/2025

Wayspot+Edit Resolution Goal and Rewards:

As mentioned above, some aspects of this challenge will be a one-time only occurrence in celebration of the upcoming transition. Some of these rewards may not be present in future challenges.

Community Rewards: Community Rewards will be given to all Explorers who participated in the challenge by reviewing 50 nominations/edits or more during the period of the challenge if a tier goal is reached. Similar to our previous challenges, only one set of rewards will be distributed based on the tier reached. These tiers are based on the number of Wayspot nominations and edits resolved (approved or rejected) within the 1-week span needed to qualify for the Community Rewards.

Individual Rewards: Individual Rewards will be distributed to individuals who participated in the challenge and reviewed the number of nominations + edits specified for each tier. Again, only one set of rewards will be awarded based on how many reviews you do during the challenge timeframe.

Wayfarer Rewards will be rewarded per Wayfarer Account, not per game account

Eligibility for Rewards:

  • You are eligible to participate in the challenge if you are an eligible Wayfarer reviewer (meaning you are at least Level 37 Trainer in Pokémon GO or Level 8 Agent in Ingress and have completed the Wayfarer Onboarding)
  • A target Wayspot resolution goal has been met; and you review at least 50 nominations or edits during the reviewing portion of the challenge.
  • We will confirm whether the Wayspot Resolution Goal has been met and if so, which Tier. The rewards distributed will be based on the Wayspot resolution goal status (Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3) at the end of the campaign. Only one set of rewards will be distributed, such that:
    • If at least Tier 1 is reached and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots/Edits, you will receive one set of Tier 1 rewards.
    • If Tier 2 is reached, and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots/Edits during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 2 rewards.
    • If Tier 3 is reached, and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots/Edits during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 3 rewards.
    • Game rewards will be distributed by email in the form of a passcode(s). For example, if you are a Trainer level 37 and an Agent level 5, you will only receive Pokémon GO rewards. If you are eligible in both games, you will receive the rewards in both by the deadline shared above.
    • Wayfarer Rewards will be rewarded per Wayfarer Account, not per game account
    • Given the above, rewards will be distributed between April 24, 2025 and April 30, 2025.

If you are eligible to participate but have not used Wayfarer before, prepare in advance by creating an account linked to your Pokémon GO or Ingress profiles. After you have signed in, check out the Criteria page and complete the onboarding to learn the basics of Niantic Wayfarer, such as reviewing and voting on nominated Wayspots.

We are very excited to be hosting this challenge. If you have any questions, please ask them in the challenge forum sub-category coming soon!

Hello Explorers,

Thank you to all who have participated in the challenge so far and we also want to update you about a necessary update to the Individual Tier 3 Rewards. We recently uncovered some unforeseen technical issues related to the Lucky Trinket and how it functions when granted outside of its usual method, like through our passcodes.

Since this would be the very first time we’re providing the Lucky Trinket in this way, we want to make absolutely sure that everyone has a smooth and trouble-free experience when redeeming it.

We are truly sorry for this change and any disappointment it may cause. To ensure you still receive a valuable reward at Individual Tier 3, we’ve replaced the Lucky Trinket with a Super Rocket Radar. We appreciate your understanding as we work to provide the best possible experience for everyone.

In terms of compensation, it’s really a disappointment

From a lucky trinket to a rocket Radar. You could’ve just said we would still get the lucky trinket but at a later date :sob::man_facepalming:t2:should’ve known it was too good to be true

Man lol. I’d rather take an extra incubator, the rocket radars are just collecting dust in my inventory xD

This is a bad look ngl. They could’ve given something equally as valuable

Is there anyway to get compensation for the watsed hours I spent reviewing?

This was the only reason, I was going to do the challenge.
We need the lucky trinket back.

i gotta agree here, a lucky trinket is just simply way better and more valuable than a super rocket radar. coming from a player with a very average account, i could definitely use a lucky trinket more! you could also provide us with a code to still get the lucky trinket on the store, thus bringing you more ad and trafficking revenue. just saying.. lemme help you put a lil more money in your pockets than what you guys think you can make and do. ill show you its limitless → @Niantic

Where did the Lucky Trinket go?? Can you really get any worse? Rocket Radar is useless. How about you just give us 1,000 coins!

Thats very disappointing! I wanted to review for 500 of course. Now… 100 and done.

I think this challenge is very important to get wayfarer ready for the split.

I’d have accepted adding a 1000 review Tier for the Lucky trinket even, but just cancelling it (it feels that way, as getting something with good IV out of Giovanni is near impossible) is… just disrespectful to all of us who work together to create the most valuable Part of Niantic, wich a copy of is worth billions. We are all going through a transition here, and we all want it to work out as good as possible for all of us. I think we deserve better than getting fooled like this.

To be honest, there is nothing I could imagine in PoGo better than a Lucky trinket, but it should at least been something in the ballpark of 5 incubators and 5 passes to match equal value if it really has to be gone (wich i still would find pretty disappointing).

I really hope the Team and Niantic get to a reconsideration here. I’d take the Lucky trinket at a later date with no issues, it’s understandable that its not coded that way so far. As the 3 remote raid passes most likely wouldn’t be redeemable without having spend all but 2 of them, same could be true for lucky trinkets. can’t redeem one as long as you have one.

If that’s not feasable, double down on other stuff. After getting hooked by thos offer, it feels really cheap to go home with a shadow pokemon thats bad IV and therefore not really woth pushing in 99% of cases. make it 5 of them and I’d consider.

The Super rocket Radar is completely useless!
Im so disappointed with you replacing the lucky trinket!
It looks like we never gonna get lucky trinket ever for free!

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. I was super excited for this event due to the Lucky Trinket. Not a regular reviewer, but dusted off the account for this event. I will not be participating any further. Respectfully, the bait and switch (however innocent it might have been), feels pretty grimy.

Maybe next time.

A super rocket radar? Man y’all better pack it up with that and give us a master ball if that lucky trinket is really that much of a hastle. If not, compensate us for wasted time.

I was going to try and push for Tier 3 for the first time ever in one of these challenges for the Lucky Trinket. Now I’m only going to go for Tier 1 or Tier 2. This change took away all my motivation to go for Tier 3.

I would’ve been willing to wait a few weeks even months if I knew that Trinket was coming my way but now nope!

Every time you gave us questionnaire, i fill it with my best opinion and i always ask the better compensation at the end of the question. Now i know that i’m filling the questionaire for nothing.. all we ask is the proper compensation for reviewing, and this is all we gonna get? Super Rocket Radar? Really? Very dissapointed… you never heard us

Can we have the upgrades converted to appeals before the ingress de-syncs? It’ll be helpful to clear out the wayspots have seen unfair rejections

Last year I worked hard and judged the entries, but this year I will be judging more moderately.
For now, I managed to judge 500 entries in 4 and a half hours, so I have completed my personal goal for the reward.
For the rest, I will take my time and look forward to judging entries from all over the world, with the intention of it being an adventure.
Good luck to everyone in judging.

Where could I find my-reviews-during-this-challenge counter (to ensure if I reached 100/250/500 reviews goal)?
