I sympathise with the OP and others in this thread… I was Great for a long time, but my rating is now in the toilet (with 11.6K reviews and 6.9K agreements)! With my own contributions, I strive for accuracy and always provide supplemental information to explain the merit of my nominations too help reviewers: I had 5 approved by Emily in one day last week (I assume), so, like others, I am convinced that what the community sees now are the borderline cases.
Despite applying the acceptance criteria, I’m failing. (Don’t get me started on supplemental information where the submitter simply tells reviewers what constitutes eligibility!). The sad thing is I cannot tell why or make substantial improvements. I was at Fair this week, briefly got to Good before dropping all the way to Poor for the first time since I started out in mid-2023.
If I can nab my 300th Ingress portal contribution in the next 7-10 days, I’m going to call time on Wayspot reviews, as it’s no longer worthwhile, and it’s not making any sense.
I really feel for you! Ratings used to feel pretty static and felt like they made sense? Nowadays it feels like they change all the time with strange drops we can’t understand
I wish we got feedback when our rating changed as to what we did wrong (or right!)
Thank you! It’s my first post on the forum and I came looking to see if others had a similar issue…which I guess a few are. I agree with your points. Reviews are subjective and all we have are guidelines. If ratings change, we need more insight as to why so we can improve, which is ultimately of benefit to the community.
Yes I’ve had similar issues across the last few months so youre not alone
Ive reviewed much less since it started happening. I skip a lot now, since I refuse to downvote something I’d personally like to accept, but I know the community would probably reject
Generally only review 1 or 2 things at a time now where I would normally review quite a number of things a few times a day.
They specifically said they are giving us the “trickier” nominantions:
I used to love to review, but now I hate it. It is too exhausting for me to figure out the “borderline” between yes and no. I use IDK in almost every review. And am down to just a handful a day when my goal used to be 100. And I am only doing those to kind of stay in the loop. My rating has stayed “Great” so far, but if I drop to “Good” I will stop reviewing.
@cyndiepooh@shritwod Interesting that you both use the ‘IDK’ options. I don’t think I make enough use of them. Rather than try for black or white, I might try and embrace the grey! I also wish I’d paid more attention to my rating before it dropped
Well I spoke way too soon because my rating dropped from Great to Fair. The quality of the submissions to look at has been dreadful, so I approve very few of them… unfortunately I suspect this means that some other reviewers are happily approving these low-quality wayspots.
Honestly, I think that’s it for me. I’ve reviewed more that 20,000 wayspots and have always had a great rating until recently. I’m not going to put more effort into reviewing wayspots if Niantic doesn’t appreciate it.
So sorry to hear that, it seems to be happening to several of us now and like you mentioned I’m sure it’s linked to the current quality of the nominations we are getting to review which are not easy to agree on in the first place
I managed to get off Poor, but with a renewed approach (more ‘IDKs’, reacquaintance with guidelines, reading up on the forum guidelines library, decreased and more deliberate review rate), I’m still stuck on Fair.
I agree with your assessment. In such circumstances, it’s hard not to think that your approvals are somehow going against the grain of the community, and that you’re in a small, but significant minority (high review count and low WF rating). And while no-one’s going to be perfect and align 100% of the time, you would hope to be in tune with the community! I’d settle for Good right now just to get back on track (selfish motivation as I had been working towards my Onyx Recon badge!
Touche… Agree. The AI is now catching all the good quality. Leave more trash for human views. People that are chasing agreements for rewards so process these real quick. Reviewers who make an effort (and always have) are dealing with nominations according to criteria and getting poor ratings…as they are dealing with more trash…
It is a wicked problem. People wanted faster reviews. Build system that is very good at it. But have reward system that rewards speed over quality means those that do quality not speed get punished. Ouch
Ive also seen a significant amount of memorial benches dedicated to family members but not someone of significance to the local community, generic businesses, graffiti vandalism, a ton of blurry or watermarked pictures…
I do live in a southern city in texas so i see a ton of bad nominations from mexico, maybe rejecting those is hurting my rating, but i have been dealing with bad mexico nominations for years now and all while having a great rating and no difference in my review methods.
Sunce this is happening to more people than just me maybe it has something to do with the current challenge. who knows… its frustrating but im sure an answer will come around sooner or later…
This is a tag from a football club in Lübeck. This is clearly an act of vandalism, it’s not permanent and it shouldn’t be accepted. As you can see in the screenshot, reviewers in this region believe that these graffiti tags represent attractions worth discovering. In the nearby Wayspots, you can already see two of them and the Wayspot name even has the suffix “6.” This proposal will most likely go through, so I’ll either have to skip it or won’t be able to match.
Hello people , i have an idea to solve a part of the issue , wayfarer should give us more detal on our "review skills " like a mark out of 20 . And for the nomination a progression bar was refresh every 12 hour with this player should
be more patient.
