The Sculpture on the Wayfarer Homepage Has Been Found?

Last month Niantic added a new landing page on the Wayfarer website. (They also added an extra screen to click through when signing in, but that’s another discussion). It features these new cartoons featuring our favorite yeti mascot, Doty.

After staring at these images for a month, I realized that the sculpture that Doty has nominated looks awfully familiar. It turns out I had seen it before on a trip to Taipei, and I even added a photo to it:

Here’s the translated text:

The Form Within

The Form Within is one of the masterpieces of Henry Moore, the greatest sculptor of the 20th century.
The figure has three spaces dug out from the solid body at its head, torso and bottom, showing the diffusion of its inner form and the presence of space. The interlacing of holes makes the hard material appear light and penetrable. It also reflects the theory of Swiss psychologist Jung: human beings seek balance among their inner forces.

@NianticThibs @NianticTintino I’m curious: was this sculpture the inspiration for the new trio of Doty cartoons? Or is it just a coincidental lookalike?

Who is going to dare to report this as a duplicate? Asking for a friend.

Doty was confused by the PoGO submission screen, which now shows Power Spots as potential duplicates

It is also interesting to note that Doty is reviewing his own submission, which according to NianticAaron absolutely can not happen. Unless Doty is using an alt account

Hey, at least the possible inspiration is a real-world object!

Amazing find! Let me check with the artist. It looks so similar it has to be!

I think anyone who finds real-world nominations based on Niantic’s artistry and is the first to post it on here should be rewarded. $1 (or whatever the equiv. overseas) to spend on a game of their choice. (Or a Niantic Mech).

I’ll take a Niantic Mech

So our artist came back to us and confirmed that Henry Moore’s statue Large Interior Form was definitely the inspiration for the drawing. It turns out that this statue has been replicated multiple times at different scales, including the one in Taiwan.

Well done on finding it! We hope it resonates with you all!
